Job Description

Position Overview: The Sleep Medicine Advanced Practice Provider (APP) delivers direct patient care consistent with the APP's education, experience, and certification, in collaboration with attending Sleep Medicine physicians, as well as fellow APPS. Working collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team, the APP conducts patient assessments, interprets diagnostic tests, develops individualized treatment plans, and provides ongoing education and support to patients and families. This role may require practice at multiple satellite locations, including evening and weekend hours, with deployment overseen by the Specialty Service Line Medical Director and Department Chair to meet the evolving needs of the health system.

Key Responsibilities:

• Conduct comprehensive sleep medicine evaluations, including detailed sleep histories, physical examinations, and review of sleep studies.

• Order, interpret, and integrate results from diagnostic tests such as polysomnography, home sleep apnea testing, and actigraphy.

• Develop and implement individualized treatment plans, including behavioral, pharmacologic, and device-based therapies (e.g., CPAP/BiPAP titration and management).

• Provide patient and family education regarding sleep disorders, treatment options, and lifestyle modifications.

• Collaborate with sleep physicians, respiratory therapists, psychologists, and other healthcare professionals to optimize patient outcomes.

• Participate in the follow-up and long-term management of patients with chronic sleep disorders.

• Document all patient encounters, assessments, and plans of care in the electronic medical record in a timely and accurate manner.

• Participate in quality improvement initiatives and continuing education related to sleep medicine.

• May participate in community outreach, education, research, and sleep health promotion activities.

Required Qualifications:

• Graduate of an accredited master's degree program for:

o Physician Assistant (PA)

o Family Nurse Practitioner

o Adult Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (AGACNP)

o Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP) or equivalent grandfathered certification.

• Current licensure as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant in Ohio.

• National certification as an NP or PA.

• Experience in sleep medicine, pulmonary medicine, neurology, or related field is a plus; new graduates with a strong interest in sleep medicine are encouraged to apply.

• Strong clinical assessment and diagnostic skills.

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

• Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

• Commitment to patient-centered care and ongoing professional development.

Preferred Qualifications (preferred but not required for otherwise qualified candidates):

• One year of Advanced Practice Provider experience (encouraged)

Additional Notes:

Other department-specific qualifications for providers will be addressed through the Certificate of Authority and credentialing process.

Work Environment:

The Advanced Practice Provider will be deployed at one or more satellite locations within the MetroHealth System. This may entail evening and/or weekend hours to best meet the needs of the patient population. Deployment assignments will be monitored on an ongoing basis by the Specialty Service Line Medical Director in conjunction with the Department Chair. Assignments and schedules may be adjusted as needed, based on the evolving needs of the Service Line and the MetroHealth System to ensure optimal patient care and service delivery.
