Communications Specialist
Position Overview
Our client is seeking a Communications Specialist to provide interim writing and communications support for its Kentucky business unit. This is a part-time, fully remote role (10-15 hours per week) running ASAP through mid-summer (June/July). While fully remote, this role supports the Kentucky office and works closely with in-state and regional stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop clear, compelling written content across multiple formats, serving as a strong, versatile writer
- Write and schedule social media content
- Align posts to monthly organizational themes
- Incorporate state-specific context and on-the-ground activity
- Draft and edit web content, coordinating handoff to a digital resource for CMS upload
- Support development of news releases and related communications
- Support media relations efforts by drafting materials such as: Press releases, Op-eds, and support content aligned to pitching efforts (pitching handled internally)
- Write and edit content for magazine inserts
- Support development of Impact Reports and longer-form storytelling pieces
- Work closely with communications leadership and internal stakeholders
- Demonstrate strong collaboration across teams and functions
- Respond well to editorial feedback and revisions
- Manage tasks and deadlines using Asana
- Support social scheduling and publishing using Sprout Social
Qualifications
- Exceptional writing and editing skills, with experience across short- and long-form formats
- Demonstrated experience writing for social media, web, and editorial/publication content
- Ability to tailor content to a regional/state-specific audience
- Strong project management and organizational skills
- Comfortable working independently in a remote environment
- Collaborative, responsive, and open to feedback
- Experience supporting nonprofit, conservation, advocacy, or mission-driven organizations preferred
