Job Summary

The University of Michigan is conducting a research study focused on healthy relationships and sex trafficking prevention among high school students in Des Moines Public Schools. The study is called Project LIVE (see below). We are hiring a temporary Data Management Advisor to support this work on an hourly basis.

Using a five-year grant from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), researchers and community partners will collaborate to deliver the READY to Stand Curriculum to high school students and school personnel in Des Moines, Iowa. The project aims to prevent sex trafficking in Des Moines Public Schools (DMPS). This will be achieved, in part, by increasing students skills for healthy relationships, and by helping students identify personal safeguards to enable them to act if they feel unsafe. The curriculum, developed by The Set Me Free Project, was implemented in Des Moines high schools beginning in 2023, and will later expand to reach students in six additional high schools.

Responsibilities*

  • Advise on the development of data management systems for a complex randomized
    control trial among high school students in Des Moines, IA
  • Assist with recruitment and program implementation efforts in Des Moines Public
    Schools
  • Monitor data collection and management, identify potential issues and propose solutions
  • Assisting in supervision of data collection at high schools
  • Enter collected data accurately and promptly
  • Clean and organize data
  • Collaborate with the University of Michigan team based in Des Moine
  • Complete required ethical and project training at a satisfactory level
  • Participate in virtual tasks as designated e.g. phone calls for recruitment efforts ; travel
    to Des Moines to support in-person activities is possible

Required Qualifications*

  • Master's in Psychology-related field, Statistics, Computer Science, or Data Science; PhD
    preferred
  • Strong statistical ability
      Data management systems design
      Data collection and analysis
      Use of data management software
      Ability to present data clearly and concisely
  • Experience with Microsoft Office
  • Experience with Qualtrics, REDCap, SPSS/Stata/R
  • At least one year of experience with direct, in-person experience with the Des Moines
    Public School system
  • Two years of experience in designing and implementing data management systems for
    large, complex research projects, especially randomized control trials
  • Knowledge of research ethics and study design
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to engage with community partners
  • At least two years of experience in community- and school-based engagement or
    research
  • Ability to work independently and solve problems as needed and to follow the direction
    of project supervisors and Principal Investigator

Desired Qualifications*

  • PhD in Psychology-related field, Statistics, Computer Science, or Data Science
  • Experience and/or willingness to mentor data management and study staff
    settings in any capacity
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Teaching/facilitation experience

Modes of Work

Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. Work agreements are reviewed annually at a minimum and are subject to change at any time, and for any reason, throughout the course of employment. Learn more about the work modes.
