Job Summary:
The Director of Large Load Strategy is responsible for driving and supporting proactive engagement with key large load customers, maintaining market intelligence on growth trends, and partners with system planning and our Operating Companies to support strategic expansion of large load. The leader will develop a forward view of market opportunities, coordinate strategic offerings to meet evolving large load needs, and help maximize system value of this opportunity.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in business, economics, engineering, or a related field required
- MBA required.
- 7+ years of experience in strategy, commercial development, consulting, or client engagement roles.
- Experience in energy, infrastructure, or related B2B industries preferred.
- Proven success leading complex, cross-functional initiatives requiring strategic alignment and stakeholder management.
Technical & Business Skills
- Strong analytical and market research capabilities; ability to synthesize regional growth data, trends, and customer intelligence into actionable insights.
- Experience developing and managing commercial relationships, including RFPs, proposals, and partnership frameworks.
- Familiarity with utility planning, energy markets, and large-load interconnection processes preferred.
- Ability to translate market signals and growth patterns into enterprise strategies and actionable recommendations.
Communication & Influence
- Exceptional communication and client engagement skills with ability to interact effectively across internal and external senior stakeholders.
- Ability to craft clear, compelling narratives and presentations for executive audiences.
- Strong collaboration skills to align OpCo teams, planners, and commercial leaders around growth opportunities.
MAJOR JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategic Leadership & Vision
- Define and champion the enterprise approach to large-load growth strategy.
- Translate external trends and customer activity into enterprise-level insights and recommendations.
- Develop and maintain a unified view of large-load market intelligence, growth opportunities, and key customer activity.
Market Intelligence & Portfolio Optimization
- Monitor regional growth trends, notable customer events, and development patterns across the Southeast.
- Maintain a living database of large-load pipeline activity, integrating internal and external data.
- Partner with system planning and operating companies to assess growth plan viability and portfolio balance.
- Identify risks and opportunities to strengthen system readiness and customer outcomes.
Customer & Stakeholder Engagement
- Lead strategic engagement with large-load customers and prospects in partnership with OpCo teams.
- Support development of tailored offerings and solutions to serve emerging needs in energy-intensive sectors.
- Represent the enterprise in customer, industry, and community forums as a trusted advisor.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with enterprise planning, transmission, regulatory, and economic development teams to ensure alignment between customer demand and system capacity.
- Facilitate collaboration across operating companies to advance a coordinated, “OneTeam” large-load strategy.
- Support leadership forums, councils, and executive communications related to large-load growth.
Innovation & Industry Awareness
- Stay abreast of emerging customer segments, technology shifts, and industry trends influencing demand.
- Identify opportunities for innovation in customer offerings, engagement models, and growth enablement.
Preferred Skills:
- Familiarity with energy-intensive sectors such as data centers, manufacturing, or industrial development.
- Commercial acumen for analyzing customer economics, cost of service, and value propositions.
- Ability to thrive in a complex, matrixed organization and drive alignment across diverse stakeholders.
Working Conditions:
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
- May require occasional travel to OpCo locations or industry conferences.
- 4 days in office w/flexibility
