About the Opportunity:
Yamaha Motor Corporation, USA is seeking a seasoned Director of Tax to lead and oversee all U.S. tax operations and policies. This strategic role ensures compliance with U.S. GAAP and applicable tax statutes while minimizing tax obligations through collaboration with Yamaha Motor Co. Ltd. in Japan and external advisors. The ideal candidate will be a hands-on leader with deep expertise in domestic and international tax matters, capable of guiding a high-performing team and communicating effectively with executives and auditors.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Lead all aspects of income tax accounting (ASC 740/FAS 109), including provision reviews and financial disclosures.
  • Oversee preparation and final approval of federal and state income tax returns and payments.
  • Develop strategies for indirect taxes (property, sales, DMV, business licenses) and approve related transactions.
  • Manage U.S. tax compliance for international operations and permanent establishments.
  • Direct audits and ensure compliance across federal, state, and local jurisdictions.
  • Administer the Tax Division budget and support tax forecasting, planning, and M&A activities.
  • Guide transfer pricing strategy (APA) and uncertain tax positions (FIN 48).
  • Monitor legislative and regulatory changes, advising executive leadership on tax implications.
  • Maintain internal controls aligned with financial reporting standards and JSOX regulations.
  • Implement new tax software and process improvements.
  • Foster strong relationships with external CPA firms and consultants.
  • Promote tax awareness and collaboration across the organization.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of five tax professionals.

What you need to be successful:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field required; Master’s in Business Taxation preferred.
  • CPA and/or JD preferred.
  • Minimum 15 years of progressive tax experience, including public accounting and corporate tax leadership.
  • Experience in a multi-cultural, foreign-owned organization preferred.
  • Expertise in corporate federal, state, and foreign tax law, transfer pricing, and tax accounting.
  • Strong research and communication skills; experience with RIA software a plus.
  • Proficiency in Word, Excel, SAP, and Corporate tax.
  • Knowledge of tax issues in manufacturing, wholesaling, captive finance, and leasing industries.

Leadership & Decision-Making:

  • Direct supervision of a team of five (1 manager + 4 staff).
  • High level of autonomy in decision-making and strategic direction.

Base Salary:

$190,000 - $230,000
