Job Description

Distribution Support Specialist

Department: Power Delivery Systems and Standards at Georgia Power

Location: 241 Ralph McGill Blvd., Atlanta, GA 30308

**JOB SUMMARY** – The Georgia Power Company Network Management System (NMS) plays a crucial role in the operation of Georgia Power's electrical distribution system. This position serves as a technical resource dedicated to supporting and maintaining the integrity of our Network Management System, Oracle NMS, which serves as the system of record for all Distribution Operations. It is utilized for both routine and extraordinary operational situations, including distribution switching, safety documentation, outage management, performance metrics and outage customer communications, all driven by data within the system.

This position is of paramount importance, as it involves responsibilities for building and maintaining the NMS production model. An accurate and efficient model is essential to ensure that NMS accurately represents the physical distribution network and provides real-time information to operators, directly impacting the safety of field personnel who rely on this real-time model for daily operations.

Responsibilities encompass the configuration of the production model, including substation removals, emergency changes ("Hot Jobs"), creation of feeder gateway nodes to ensure proper DSCADA (Distribution Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) communication, and adding/removing feeder control zones in the NMS tool. The role also entails managing a high volume of model updates due to GRID, requiring constant communication with the Distribution Control Center, Grid contractors (Burns and McDonnell), and the Model Build Team.

Administrative tasks include monitoring Cool Compliance and approving NMS and AMI tool requests. This position also involves responding to and documenting queries or requests from Distribution Control Centers (DCC) leadership and Distribution Areas regarding Abnormal System Conditions or events directly impacting system reliability. Collaboration with partners in GIS (Geographic Information Systems) on Model UpDate (MUD) Notes and other system conditions is a key part of the role.

The person in this role will become a Subject Matter Expert (SME) on all NMS aspects and will be responsible for application upgrades and maintenance. The position also includes involvement in other activities such as providing end-user training and serving on various SOCO committees.

The successful candidate should be prepared to assist in storm restoration activities, which may require working after hours and weekends. Flexibility in working hours throughout the week is essential to reduce the risk of removing safety documents during heavy workloads.
