The Department of Public Utilities Pump Station division is actively seeking motivated, skilled Equipment Operators II. If you have a passion for working with heavy machinery and are ready to be part of a dedicated team making a direct impact on your community, we want to hear from you!

As an Equipment Operator II, you will:
  • Operate a variety of motorized equipment, including tanker trucks, vacuum trucks, dump trucks, and backhoes, to transport materials, tools, and personnel to job sites.
  • Use specialized equipment to support essential City operations, from debris removal to digging and maintenance tasks.
  • Perform operational tests and inspections to ensure facility systems and components are running efficiently.
  • Inspect and perform minor maintenance on motor equipment, reporting any issues to your supervisor.

What We're Looking For:
  • A skilled Equipment Operator who knows how to use heavy machinery and hand/power tools to keep things running smoothly.
  • A team player with the ability to respond to emergency situations, including inclement weather and overtime requirements.
  • A professional with a valid Class A CDL who's ready to put their experience to work for the City of Chesapeake (tanker endorsement required within 6 months of hire).
