Job Summary

As part of the largest College at the University of Michigan, LSA Finance employs more than 100 staff who provide financial, procurement, and research administration support to over 100 units. We are looking for well-qualified applicants for a Financial/Business Analyst Senior role to provide financial reporting, analysis, and support services for LSA units and serve in a leadership role on the Financial/Business Analyst team. The financial/business analyst is a member of LSA Finance, reporting to the Business Analyst Manager, and partnering with Unit Administrators to provide shared financial management and financial/business analyst support. As one team, the financial/business analysts, business office staff, and procurement staff work together as the financial resource for assigned units. A training program is part of the onboarding plan.

Responsibilities*

  • Partner with Unit Administrators to develop budgets and assist with understanding and interpreting performance against budgets. Troubleshoot financial-related questions.
  • Provide accurate and thoughtful guidance regarding UM, LSA, and unit financial policies and procedures.
  • Develop regular and ad hoc reports and analyses.
  • Review and approve transactions.
  • Lead/Participate in special projects to improve reporting, analysis, and internal processes to achieve productivity improvements and customer service delivery.
  • Promote a strong internal controls environment and help create and manage processes to ensure controls are in place.
  • Provide training to LSA staff on budget and finance topics.
  • Assist unit leadership with a wide range of financial-related strategic questions.
  • Mentor, coach, and support the professional development of an Analyst Intermediate.
  • Advise on operational efficiency within units to help promote the effective use of financial resources.
  • Complete regular, thorough, and timely reviews. Document findings and inform units of issues or concerns as needed.
  • Partner with LSA Finance support staff on financial activities.
  • Communicates and clarifies procedures and processes, and ensures communications are timely, relevant, and accurate.

Required Qualifications*

  • BBA in accounting, finance, or business administration or equivalent work experience.
  • 5 - 8 years of progressively responsible experience in finance, financial analysis, forecasting, and budgeting.
  • Extensive knowledge of spreadsheets such as Excel, Google, and other Office products.
  • Significant experience with query tools is highly desired.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with staff at all levels and with varying levels of financial and budgetary knowledge.
  • Exhibits sound judgment; handles sensitive and confidential information appropriately.

Modes of Work

Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. Work agreements are reviewed annually at a minimum and are subject to change at any time, and for any reason, throughout the course of employment. Learn more about the work modes.

Additional Information

The target salary range for this position is $90,000 - $96,100. The actual salary offered may be higher based on the qualifications and experience of the selected candidate.
