The Peabody Essex Museum (PEM), one of the nation’s most dynamic art museums, is seeking an HVAC Maintenance Mechanic I. Founded in 1799, PEM is dedicated to transforming people’s lives by creating a museum experience that celebrates the capacity of art and culture to inform and change our understanding of our place in the world. By presenting art and culture in new ways, by linking past and present, and by embracing artistic and cultural achievements worldwide, the museum offers unique opportunities to explore multilayered and interconnected arenas of creative expression.

This position performs preventative maintenance, installations and repairs on a wide variety of HVAC/R equipment (Residential / Commercial) such as low-pressure commercial steam boilers, centrifugal chillers, humidification equipment and other mechanical systems with assistance from the Facilities Engineering team. The HVAC Maintenance Mechanic I works 40 hour per week on shifts from 7:00 am to 4:00 pm - Monday thru Friday. In addition to working some overtime, s/he must be available to work occasional weekends, participate in an on-call rotation for HVAC plant critical alarms and respond to off – hour emergencies as and when needed.

A high school or vocational school diploma is required along with a valid driver’s license. The selected candidate will also undergo a D.O.T physical examination to operate PEM fleet vehicles. An EPA 608 Universal Certification is desired but not required. The ideal candidate will have two to five years of experience in the operation and maintenance of building HVAC/R and mechanical systems as well as ability to use a PC with the appropriate software to maintain operations records. The hourly range for this role is $28.86 to $35.00 commensurate with experience.
