Job Description:

What’s the role

As an Instrumentation and Electrical Maintenance Technician, your responsibilities may include, but are not limited to the following in accordance with relevant codes.

Accountabilities:

  • Troubleshooting DCS (Digital Control System) control interfaces; level, flow, and pressure measurement equipment; vibration measurement instrumentation; low, medium, and high voltage equipment; and power generation and distribution equipment

  • Read and understand piping/instrument and electrical drawings of instrumentation, control, power, and metering circuitry

  • Remove, repair, maintain, and test emergency shutdown valves and control valves

  • Understanding of proper application of pressure-rated piping/tubing fittings associated with various equipment (manual sample stations, control valves, instrumentation, etc.)

  • Diagnose and apply results using various test equipment

  • Apply Electrical Safety Rules in accordance with site and OSHA standards

  • Record work history and submit feedback for continuous improvement of maintenance plans, policies, and procedures

  • Troubleshoot and repair instrument or electrical systems

  • Perform routine installation and calibration of instrument or electrical systems

  • Ability to perform reactive or preventative maintenance of instrument or electrical systems and components

Work Schedule

  • 9/80 base work schedule with varied schedules depending on worksite demand

  • Certain plant conditions will require night shift, weekends, and holidays (turnarounds, outages, major plant activities, production support, etc.)

What we need from you

  • Must be authorized to work in the United States on a permanent basis without the requirement of a work visa

  • Must be at least 18 years of age

  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent required

  • Must have minimum of 5 years’ instrumentation industry experience with a minimum of 4 years within the chemical and refining industry

  • Industry-accredited training or apprenticeship program in instrumentation is preferred

  • Associate degrees in Industrial Maintenance are preferred

  • Military Maintenance School is preferred

  • Troubleshooting and operating a Process Control System or DCS control interfaces (experience with Emerson DeltaV is a plus)

  • Experience maintaining and troubleshooting various process instrumentation (pressure, flow, temperature, custody transfer, weight, etc.)

  • Experience with installation, testing, troubleshooting, and repair of fire and gas detection equipment and control systems (experience with Det-Tronics is a plus)

  • Install, test, and troubleshoot Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), including correcting ladder logic (Allen-Bradley, Siemens PCS7, GE Mark VII)

  • Troubleshooting, calibration, and making field repairs to control valves, positioners, and actuators

  • Experience bending and creating new tubing runs (Swagelok or Parker)

  • Detailed knowledge of HART-based communicators

  • Must be able to read, write, and speak English fluently and understand operating procedures

  • Must possess and maintain a current, valid license to operate a motor vehicle in the United States

  • Willing to work outside in inclement weather with or without accommodation

  • Willing to work in compact and confined spaces with or without accommodation

  • Willing to climb ladders, walk up and down steps, and work at heights with or without accommodation

  • Must be willing to work in an environment that requires the daily use of computers (i.e., iOS, MS Suite, SAP)

  • Must be willing to be trained and maintain certification to operate motorized lifting equipment such as man-lifts, cranes, trucks, forklifts, etc., to support craft activities

  • Must be willing to respond to emergencies; successful candidates must reside within 60 minutes of the site or be willing to relocate within 60 minutes of the site without relocation assistance

  • Willing to work holidays, nights, weekends, and overtime supporting run and maintain schedules, holdovers, outages, turnarounds, etc.

  • Willing to be on call and meet call-out standards to respond to site responsibilities and emergencies

  • As part of the pre-employment selection process, candidates are required to submit to and receive satisfactory results from all pre-employment background, medical, and reference checks, including hair and fluid (saliva or urine) drug testing

  • Willing to support the company’s drug-free work environment, which will include random drug and alcohol screenings

What we offer

The rate for this position is $48.57. Individual pay will be based on various factors, such as relevant work experience, education, certifications, skill level, seniority, and internal equity.

For regular full-time or regular part-time employees of the Company (participating companies as listed in the Summary Plan Description), insurance coverage options include medical, dental, vision coverage, life Insurance, Business Travel Accident Insurance, and Occupational Accidental Death Benefit programs. Employees also participate in a company pension plan and a 401(k) plan. Paid leave includes up to 6 weeks of paid vacation time, up to 11 paid holidays, and parental leave offering 16 weeks of paid leave for birthing parents, and 8 weeks of paid leave for non-birthing parents.

Additionally, employees are eligible for short-term disability leave for up to 26 weeks at 100% or 50% of base pay as well as Long-Term Disability insurance. Shell also offers other compensation such financial reimbursement for adoption, wellness, education, and personal learning expenses, and some roles are eligible for discretionary long-term incentives. For interns, eligible benefits include medical, dental, and vision coverage, life insurance, Business Travel Accident Insurance, and Occupational Accidental Death Benefit programs; participation in a 401(k) plan; and paid leave for up to 11 paid holidays.
