Laboratory Technical Assistant, Renton (40 hrs)
Job Description
The Technical Assistant performs the pre-analytic phases of laboratory testing procedures and may also perform the analytic and post analytic phases of waived testing procedures, loading of specimen and quality control material for testing on instruments, loading of reagents and appropriate documentation, and routine instrument maintenance. Other duties include: responsibility for documentation of all activities, monitoring supplies; compliance with all regulatory and accreditation requirements related to safety and laboratory testing; face to face and telephone customer service; computer data entry and retrieval; workplace cleanliness and maintenance, training, and point-of-care testing.
Essential Responsibilities:- Technologist Assistance: Loads specimen and quality control material for testing on instruments, records the receipt of reagent and supply shipments, loads reagents and appropriate documentation, and performs routine instrument maintenance, specimen banking/storage and disposal.
- Technical Resource: Helps resolve problems and answer pre-analytical procedural questions. Serves as a resource to laboratory customers.
- Computer Data Entry & Retrieval: Accessions specimens, enters results, retrieves information, enters results.
- Specimen Collection and Processing: Collects specimens for lab testing. Has knowledge of special specimen collection and handling requirements for specific populations, e.g. infants, pediatric and geriatric patients. Processes specimens for lab testing according to laboratory procedures.
- Other duties: Participates in Performance Improvement activities. Performs maintenance. Performs waived testing and EKG testing. Trains phlebotomy students and employees.
Basic Qualifications: Experience
- Minimum one (1) year of recent clinical laboratory experience.
- High School Diploma OR General Education Development (GED) required.
- Medical Assistant Phlebotomist Certificate (Washington)
- Basic computer skills.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Customer service and problem-solving skills.
- Five (5) years of clinical laboratory experience.
- Bachelors degree in a science related field.
- Background studies in science-related classes.
