Do you have a passion for public service and delivering outstanding customer experiences? The Chesapeake Public Library (CPL) is seeking an energetic, service-oriented Library Specialist I to support reference, readers' advisory, and public service operations at the South Norfolk Memorial Library.
CPL offers a collaborative, respectful work environment and plays a vital role in supporting lifelong learning and community connection. We're looking for someone who excels at customer service, stays organized, and enjoys helping others navigate library resources.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide reference and readers' advisory assistance across all service areas.
- Train and supervise assigned staff and volunteers.
- Assist patrons and staff with library technology, materials, and equipment.
- Maintain and organize the library's collection and related resources.
- Support daily library operations, including opening/closing, financial transactions, and customer accounts.
- Troubleshoot computers and equipment.
- Plan and present programs, events, and workshops; create related promotional materials.
- Compile statistics and support reporting needs.
- Maintain supplies, reference forms, bulletin boards, and mail distribution.
- Ensure coverage across public service desks.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
