Join our Team as a Materials Compliance Specialist!

The Role:

The Materials Compliance Specialist plays a critical role in ensuring the materials in Toyota Material Handling North America’s (TMHNA) products and components comply with the relevant materials compliance regulations such as EPA TSCA, ECCC Chemical Management Plan, State specific PFAS, California Proposition 65, REACH and RoHS.  This individual will contribute significantly towards achieving product compliance by developing and executing comprehensive regulatory compliance programs, completing technical documentation, and collaborating closely with cross-functional teams throughout the product lifecycle. 

The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented individual, dedicated to thorough documentation of compliance- related activities to ensure emissions regulations are well-met throughout the product development process and certification application.  The individual in this role is expected to manage processes effectively and efficiently for the product lifecycle, across design, development, and testing. This individual is expected to develop and execute comprehensive compliance programs, complete technical documentation, and collaborate closely with cross-function teams.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Demonstrate and further develop strong understanding and knowledge of environmental (material) regulations and requirements within the organization.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert of US EPA TSCA, PFAS, California Proposition 65 regulations, and other federal and state environmental (material) regulations and standards such as IPC-1752A.
  • Identify applicable material compliance standards for new products based on sales destination.
  • Strategize and develop environmental (material) compliance requirements for new product development projects and maintain compliance status for current and legacy products.
  • Compile environmental (material) compliance documentation, and review with legal counsel to ensure consistency in all compliance documentation.
  • Lead material compliance-related data compilation, and submissions to the relevant regulatory agencies including registration and reporting.
  • Interface with the relevant regulatory agencies.
  • Manage materials compliance data/ database.
  • Support the creation of policies, procedures, and training for materials compliance.
  • Collaborate with TICO, TMH, other cross-functional teams and suppliers on current and new environmental (material) compliance related activities and programs
  • Lead and perform audits of the environmental (material) compliance data and documentation at regular intervals – includes cross-functional audits as required.
  • Collaborate and work closely within regulatory compliance group on product compliance related activities.
  • Provide guidance and input to training materials for cross-functional teams on compliance requirements, issues, and timelines.
  • Integrate continuous improvement concepts and techniques into all aspects of the roles and responsibilities.
  • Participate in industry association conferences and working groups like AEM, ITA etc.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field (Material engineering, Environmental engineering, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry and or similar field)
  • Strong Knowledge of PFAS, TSCA, REACH, ROHS etc.
  • Strong commitment to compliance, confidentiality, integrity, and ethical behavior
  • Three years of experience in engine related products and/ or relevant manufacturing fields
  • Experience working in the environmental (materials) regulatory compliance and documentation areas/field.
  • Experience working with third party supply chain service providers like ASSENT
  • Experience leading cross-functional teams and training team members.
  • Experience in compiling and maintaining compliance documentation, ensuring consistency and accuracy across all products.
  • Strong research and analytical skills, with the ability to identify trends and make connections between the regulatory compliance scenarios and TMH business priorities.
  • Excellent Microsoft Office Skills and knowledge of IPC file formats.
  • Strong commitment to compliance, problem-solving skills, and drive, with an ability to lead multiple projects and initiatives in parallel.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal skills, and ability to collaborate effectively on compliance topics with different departments and regulatory agencies.
  • Self-motivated individual who is passionate about creating sustainable change

What Your Total Compensation & Benefits Package will look like:

Salary - $84,000 - $120,000 per year. Compensation depends on the selected candidate’s education and experience.
