Job Summary: Responsible for the gross examination and quality sectioning of all pathology specimen types resulting in proper diagnosis for patient care. The Pathologist Assistant will also provide oversight and direction to grossing technicians in the gross room.

Essential Responsibilities:
Performs dissection, description, and histological sampling of all pathology specimen types.
Obtains and review the patient's chart and other clinical data to assist with gross examination.
Ensures appropriate specimen accessioning, pertinent clinical information and studies.
Photographs all pertinent gross specimen.
Creates manifest and requisitions required for tissue processing.
Oversee and provide mentoring to grossing technicians assisting in the gross room.
Performs frozen sections and other intra-operative procedures as needed.
Understand and ensures compliance with all regulatory agencies.
Has knowledge of, implements and enforces general laboratory policies.
Understands and enforces all disciplinary aspects as they relate to the hospital and departmental policy.
Maintains and Models REACH values (Respect, Excellence, Accountability, Compassion, Honor)
Demonstrates regular, reliable, and predictable attendance.
Performs other duties as required.

Education and Experience Requirements:
Bachelors' or higher degree in a pathologists' assistant program that is NAACLS accredited.
Holds a New York State Pathologists' Assistant license or is eligible for a New York Pathologists' Assistant license.
Holds ASCP certification or is eligible for ASCP certification.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Requirements:
Gross anatomic knowledge necessary to properly assess all specimen types.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Able to use dictation software along with LIS to produce.
Working Conditions:
Manual: significant manual skills/motor coord & finger dexterity
Occupational: Some occupational risk
Physical Effort: Very Heavy effort. May exert up to 50 lbs. force
Physical Environment: Some exposure to dirt, odors, noise, human waste, etc.
