Job Summary

The Adult Echocardiography laboratory is currently looking to recruit an outgoing, self-directed & positive individual, with impeccable customer service skills, to join the Adult Echo lab scheduling team as a Patient Service Intermediate. This position would work full time in Echo scheduling office, scheduling various types of testing for the Echo, DVU, and EKG departments, as part of the Cardiovascular Testing Call line, while providing clerical support to a dynamic department.

Responsibilities*

  • Work in the Echo Scheduling office/Call Center, taking calls and scheduling patients for testing within the CVC and other Michigan Medicine satellite locations that provide echocardiography services.
  • Arrange patient transportation.
  • Work directly with medical staff and physicians to coordinate patient care.
  • Coordinate with other clinical departments to ensure comprehensive care.
  • Redirect phone calls to appropriate offices, clinical staff, etc.
  • Verify patient demographics and insurance information.
  • Call patients to schedule or reschedule appointments.
  • Watch multiple MiChart order work queues.
  • Provide patients specific directions to prepare for testing.
  • Transcribe orders from external providers.
  • Complete medical records requests.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications*

  • A high school diploma or an equivalent education.
  • 3-4 years of experience.

Desired Qualifications*

  • Working knowledge of MiChart and Cadence scheduling.
  • Cisco/Finesse phone system experience.
  • Patient Tracker experience and previous experience in a scheduling environment.
  • Knowledge of basic medical terminology.
  • Experience working in a large complex health care setting.
  • Knowledge of university policies & procedures.
  • Ability to multi-task.
  • Works well in a team setting or alone.
  • Is skilled in handling challenging situations with poise and grace.
  • Understands and demonstrates the core concepts of Patient and Family Centered Care (PFCC), including: Respect and Dignity, Information Sharing, Participation, and Collaboration.
  • Excellent attendance and the flexibility to change hours to provide coverage if necessary.
  • Able to work weekends (Saturday only) on a rotational basis with other staff.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to work well within a team setting.
  • Communications effectively.
  • Demonstrates active listening, verbal, and information technology skills.

Work Schedule

40 hours per week, 8 hr. day shifts, Monday and Friday; 8:00 to 4:30pm, with some WFH. Saturday hours required on a rotational basis, 7am-12pm working from home.

Modes of Work

Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. Work agreements are reviewed annually at a minimum and are subject to change at any time, and for any reason, throughout the course of employment. Learn more about the work modes.

Union Affiliation

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours, and other terms and conditions of employment.

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third-party administrator to conduct background screenings.  Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
