Job Summary

Qualified RN applicants will be considered who will extend their NNP education in an intern position with Von Voigtlander Women's Hospital (VVWH) 9 East and 9 West Birthing Center as well as neonatal patients in the Brandon NICU on 8 W and the expansion unit (10 West).  This educational program provides a valuable and unique career opportunity for current registered nurses who have graduated from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program with a Neonatal Specialty.  By teaching a wide range of skills and knowledge, the program prepares the intern for their new role as a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner. The goals include providing the highest quality patient and family centered care, facilitating communication among multidisciplinary care providers, increasing educational opportunities for house staff and medical students, and innovating care of the newborn in the Children's and Women' Hospital.

  • Evening Shift Differential-$3.00 / hour
  • Night Shift Differential- $4.00 / hour

  • Night Shift Weekend Differential- $6.90 / hour

    Responsibilities*

    All responsibilities are performed under the direct supervision of a licensed Neonatal Nurse Practitioner

    • Coordinate care of acutely ill neonates in the intensive care and acute care unit settings
    • The NP Intern will present pertinent data to the medical staff
    • Collect and interpret reports from diagnostic lab tests, radiographic procedures, and clinical studies
    • Confer with attending physicians and communicate with other care providers/consultants to coordinate clinical care
    • Streamline the patient transfer process between levels of care
    • Attend high risk deliveries and assist with neonatal resuscitation activities
    • Once credentialed and privileged as a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner will perform procedures and order entry

    Expectations:

    NOTE: The Neonatal Nurse Practitioner internship requires a two-year commitment following completion of orientation.  The selected candidate will practice as a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner for 2 years in the C.S. Mott Children's Hospital, Brandon Newborn Intensive Care Unit with no less than a 0.9-1.0 FTE appointment fraction.

    Actual Nursing Framework LEVEL and salary will be determined at time of hire.
    Nursing Framework levels range from Level A to Level F.

    • Ability to function under the direct supervision of a licensed NNP while assuring the medical care team is functioning smoothly and in collaboration with each other
    • Demonstrated ability to collaborate clinical care ideas across multiple patient care services and to communicate as a patient advocate
    • Demonstrated experience with and knowledge of current medical, surgical, and pharmaceutical treatment modalities of the acute and chronically ill neonates

    Work Schedule

    Hours: 40 per week

    Shift: Day, This position includes weekend shifts as required by the service.

    Location: C.S. Mott Children's Hospital, Brandon Newborn Intensive Care Unit

    All new employees will be expected to float to a designated unit(s) in times of low census based on collective bargaining agreement

    Modes of Work

    Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. Work agreements are reviewed annually at a minimum and are subject to change at any time, and for any reason, throughout the course of employment. Learn more about the work modes.

    This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the Michigan Nurses Association and the U-M Professional Nurse Council union, which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.
