Job Summary

The Fonseca Laboratory seeks a highly skilled Research Laboratory Specialist Lead to join an NIH-funded research program investigating how early-life respiratory viral infections alter lung development and drive long-term pulmonary disease. The position involves advanced molecular, cellular, and computational techniques using mouse and human systems.

The successful candidate will lead and support projects involving bulk and single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq), lung organoid development, confocal microscopy, in situ hybridization, and multi-omics analysis (ChIP-seq, ATAC-seq). The candidate will design and implement CRISPR/Cas9 genome-editing experiments, analyze complex datasets, and collaborate across multidisciplinary teams.

Responsibilities*

  • Design and execute experiments involving bulk RNA-seq and scRNA-seq sample preparation, sequencing, and data analysis.
  • Develop, culture, and analyze human and murine lung organoids; perform confocal imaging and in situ hybridization.
  • Generate and analyze epigenetic datasets (ChIP-seq, ATAC-seq) and integrate multi-omics results.
  • Design and perform CRISPR/Cas9 gene-editing and screening experiments.
  • Manage data organization, documentation, and compliance with institutional standards.
  • Contribute to manuscript preparation, grant reports, and supervision of trainees.

Required Qualifications*

  • Ph.D., in Molecular Biology, Bioinformatics, or a related field, with 6+ years of experience.
  • Proven expertise with bulk and single-cell RNA sequencing workflows and data analysis.
  • Hands-on experience developing and imaging 3D organoid cultures (human and/or murine).
  • Demonstrated proficiency in epigenomic assays (ChIP, Chip-seq, or related).
  • Experience designing and implementing CRISPR/Cas9 experiments.
  • Excellent written, analytical, and organizational skills.

Desired Qualifications*

  • Background in cell development, stem cell biology.
  • Proficiency with bioinformatics tools (R, Python, Seurat, Cell Ranger, or similar).
  • Experience with murine models and human samples processing.

Modes of Work

Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. Work agreements are reviewed annually at a minimum and are subject to change at any time, and for any reason, throughout the course of employment. Learn more about the work modes.

Background Screening
