Job Summary

The Eban-Rothschild Lab at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, is seeking a motivated Research Technician. The lab combines cutting edge approaches, including electrophysiological recordings, optogenetics, chemogenetics and calcium recordings in freely behaving and sleeping mice, to study the neuronal mechanisms regulating sleep initiation, memory consolidation, and sensory processing during sleep. The Research Technician will be responsible for routine laboratory management, will work with lab members and the PI on different lab projects, and will have the opportunity to pursue independent research.

Responsibilities*

  • Routine laboratory management, including organization and maintenance of lab supplies and equipment. 
  • Mouse husbandry, animal care procedures and genotyping.
  • Training of new laboratory members, maintaining experimental systems and assisting lab members with different aspects of research projects. 
  • Research activities may include slicing/imaging, behavioral experimentations, performing stereotaxic surgeries, neurophysiological recordings, optogenetic/chemogenetic manipulations, and in vivo calcium imaging.

Required Qualifications*

  • High school diploma or Associate's degree and 1 to 2 years of laboratory experience. (Associate degree in Biology, Neuroscience, Biopsychology, Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline.)
  • Excellent organizational skills. The candidate must be detailed-oriented. 
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Willingness and ability to work with animals.

Desired Qualifications*

  • Bachelor's degree in Biology, Neuroscience, Biopsychology, Engineering, Computer Science or a related discipline.

Modes of Work

Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. Work agreements are reviewed annually at a minimum and are subject to change at any time, and for any reason, throughout the course of employment. Learn more about the work modes.

Additional Information

The salary range is $33,000 to $38,700. Please note a higher salary may be offered based on equity and the selected candidate's experience.

This position is term-limited to one year with the possibility of renewal. The aim is to renew the position for several years.
A higher salary may be offered based on equity and the selected candidate's experience.
