Responsibilities*

Initiate and perform all phases of neonatal, pediatric and adult respiratory care.

Required Qualifications*

Respiratory Therapist Intermediate: 

  • Graduation from an AMA approved Respiratory Therapy Program, minimum Associates degree or an equivalent combination of education of experience is necessary.
  • Current license in respiratory therapy by the state of Michigan is necessary
  • Licensure and credentials must be maintained by the employee at all times during employment (both regular and temporary status positions).
  • Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS), or certification within 30 days of hire

Graduate Respiratory Therapist

  • College graduate with a degree in Respiratory Therapy
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) within 90 days of the date of hire.
  • Licensure as a Respiratory Therapist by Michigan Department of Community Health, Board of Respiratory Care within 90 days of the date of hire for new graduates (regular and temporary status positions).
  • Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS), or certification within 30 days of hire

Physical Requirements: Considerable physical and mental effort in job duties, i.e., assisting patients, moving equipment, lifting, pulling, pushing, bending, twisting, walking, long periods of standing, comforting, and emotionally supporting patients and families. This position may be prone to fatigue and infrequent opportunities for relaxation.

Desired Qualifications*

  • Previous pediatric or neonatal intensive care experience. 
  • Registration (RRT) by the National Board for Respiratory Care is preferred.

Work Schedule

  • Night shift after completion of orientation
  • 36 hour position

Modes of Work

Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. Work agreements are reviewed annually at a minimum and are subject to change at any time, and for any reason, throughout the course of employment. Learn more about the work modes.

Underfill Statement

This position may be underfilled at a lower classification depending on the qualifications of the selected candidate.

Union Affiliation

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours, and other terms and conditions of employment.

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.  Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.

Application Deadline

Job openings are posted for a minimum of seven calendar days.  The review and selection process may begin as early as the eighth day after posting. This opening may be removed from posting boards and filled anytime after the minimum posting period has ended.
