National Grid is hiring Senior Supervisor (Power Plants), Power Plants Maintenance in our Northport, NY location.

Job Purpose

To be responsible for the supervision and organization of assigned power station operations and maintenance personnel in order to effectively and efficiently accomplish job tasks in line with departmental and National Grid requirements.

Key Accountabilities

  • Supervise a union work force consisting of Relay Technicians, Electric Technicians, and Control Technicians in accordance with the Local 1049 Collective Bargaining Agreement.
  • Lays out and assigns work; orders material; trains and instructs personnel. Recommends special training needs. Ensures qualifications of assigned staff are kept current.
  • Supervise electrical modifications and maintenance for Steam Plants, Gas Turbines, and Renewable Energy Systems.
  • Supervise the maintenance, planning, and testing activities associated with a variety of electrical equipment including, but not limited to: circuit breakers, electrical switchgear, transformers, electrical buss, electrical cables, batteries, cathodic protection, metering, motors, generators, and generator/transformer/motor protective relaying.
  • Provide leadership and supervision to various size crews in the maintenance, repair, modification, or installation of all types of electrical, mechanical, metering, relay, and battery equipment.
  • Supervise relay technicians in the application of new relay settings.
  • Ensures compliance with applicable NERC standards for relays and batteries by adhering to preventative maintenance schedules and reporting requirements.
  • Work with the Relay Engineer in evaluating new protective relays and control schemes.
  • Establish relationships with vendors to facilitate the efficient and timely procurement of material and/or tooling.
  • On occasion, supervise contractors in the performance of electrical work. Review contractor's installation work at power station sites.
  • Provide commissioning and troubleshooting support at any of the power station sites.
  • Perform equipment inspections at Vendors manufacturing facilities or repair shops.
  • Participate in weekly and monthly departmental safety meetings. Conduct monthly safety assessments.
  • This successful candidate will need to respond to emergency conditions that may occur outside of normal business hour.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering with 5 years related experience or in lieu of degree, 10 years' experience in commercial electrical construction, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
  • In depth knowledge of power plant systems, components, equipment, and operations.
  • Experience with renewable energy systems preferred (Bulk Energy Storage Systems, Solar Photovoltaics, Wind)
  • Supervisory experience required.
  • Knowledge of applicable codes and standards. Familiarity with National Electric Code required.
  • Ability to read electrical schematics including, but not limited to: elementary diagrams, control wiring diagrams, one-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, etc
  • Electrician's license preferred.
  • Experience with inspecting installation work.
  • Experience with preparing specifications, budget estimates, and schedules.
  • Proficient in the use of computer programs such as Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, and Maximo
  • Excellent verbal, written, interpersonal and computer skills. The position may require participating in presentations.
  • This position is one of National Grid's career path roles which provide for promotional opportunities within and across salary bands as you develop and evolve in the position by gaining experience, expertise and acquiring and applying technical skills.
  • A valid New York State driver's license. The position will require traveling to various power plant sites across Long island.

Salary

$128,000 - $150,000 a year
