The Northrop Grumman Propulsion Systems and Controls (PS&C) facility in Elkton, Maryland began solid-propellant rocket operations in 1948. Today, the Elkton PS&C facility designs, develops, and produces solid-propellant propulsion and ordnance systems in programs professionally managed for a wide variety of Government and commercial customers. The facility also serves as the hub for offsite engineering and test facilities in Ronkonkoma, NY, Palm Beach Gardens, FL and San Jose, CA.
Elkton, Maryland is located on the Upper Chesapeake Bay, midway between Philadelphia and Baltimore. Discover charming small towns, parks with miles of trails, specialty and antique shops, award winning restaurants, and inns. You can hike, bike, camp, bird watch, ride horseback, or drop a fishing line. Five rivers, Chesapeake Bay and the C&D Canal can be explored by boat or by land. Roles/Responsibilities:
Candidate will be responsible for set-up and operation of conventional machine shop equipment, specifically mills, lathes, and grinding equipment to produce precision parts per drawing and/or written technical specifications. Candidate will be working under the direct supervision of a senior Machinist.
Basic Qualifications
A candidate must meet ALL of the below criteria. The candidate must:
• Be a student who is enrolled in high school or a vocational school machining program and will be enrolled through Fall 2025.
• Interest in STEM, manufacturing, and/or machining
• Be available to work part-time (up to 25 hours a week) through August 2025, with possibility to extend into school year.
• Be able to obtain a U.S. Government security clearance (U.S. citizenship is a pre-requisite)
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Have an overall cumulative GPA of 3.70/4.0 or higher
• Familiar will standard machine shop equipment, lathes, mills, drill press, standard hand tools
• Familiarity with blueprints, sketches, GD&T, and other engineering specifications
• Working knowledge of shop floor mathematics and measuring tools/equipment
• Ability to follow assigned work instructions or documentation
• Experience with EDM equipment is a plus
• Candidate must have a willingness to learn and possess a positive teamworking attitude
• Excellent communication, problem solving and troubleshooting skills
• Candidate must demonstrate the ability to work safely and concern for safety of others
At Northrop Grumman, our internship pay rates are standardized and take into account three main factors: the anticipated graduation date of the individual, the cost of labor of the geographic location, and whether the internship is considered technical or administrative.
The pay ranges for this specific opportunity are as follows:
High School: $16.50 - $19.75
Applicants under 18 years of age if hired must sign a High School Student agreement with Northrop Grumman. The Applicant understands and agrees that all work performed as a minor employee will conform to the applicable standards and expectations set forth in this agreement. The Applicant further understands that, if hired, s/he and a parent or guardian must sign and submit a Minor Work Permit to the Maryland Department of Labor prior his/her first day of work.
