Job Summary:
Southern Financial Reporting is looking for a motivated and experienced Accountant to join our team. This role plays a key part in managing monthly and quarterly accounting functions for Southern Company Holdings, Inc. (SOHI), a wholly owned subsidiary of Southern Company with multiple investments across diverse projects. This role offers exposure to a wide range of accounting activities and opportunities to make meaningful contributions to financial analysis and reporting. Responsibilities:
- Prepare monthly and quarterly SOHI journal entries in Oracle
- Prepare payment requests for SOHI subsidiaries
- Create and distribute monthly affiliate billing documentation
- Reconcile bank accounts within Oracle Cash Management
- Analyze and reconcile account balances
- Monitor and analyze cash balances; initiate funding at SOHI subsidiaries as needed
- Prepare and distribute monthly financial statements
- Support quarterly SEC reporting activities, including documentation preparation and tie-outs
- Collaborate with stakeholders across various departments and business units, as well as external audit teams.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required
- Minimum 1 – 3 years of professional experience in accounting, financial accounting, regulatory accounting, finance, internal controls, or auditing
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word
- Experience with journal entries, bank and account reconciliations, and Oracle ERP is desired
Skills & Abilities:
- Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and documentation skills
- Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail
- Clear and professional verbal and written communications skills
- Ability to collaborate effectively with personnel across departments and levels
- Skilled at managing multiple priorities and deadlines
