Department Summary

The Division of Academic Affairs builds, sustains, and continually enhances an environment of teaching, learning, and scholarship that meets and readily adapts to the changing needs of students, faculty, librarians, and staff; promotes the generation and sharing of new knowledge and innovative approaches; and actively cultivates professional advancement, public responsibility, and personal well-being.

The Office of the Provost works with divisional and campus constituencies to advance the core values of academic excellence, opportunity, and innovation. Among other key responsibilities, the Office coordinates the planning of new degree programs, the hiring and evaluation of faculty, and ensures an effective teaching and learning environment.

BSU's degree programs are offered through six colleges: the Ricciardi College of Business, the College of Education and Health Sciences, the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, the Bartlett College of Science and Mathematics, the College of Continuing Studies, and the College of Graduate Studies. Student support services are offered through several offices within the Division of Academic Affairs: the University's Library Services, Academic Achievement Center, and the Registrar. Faculty support services are available through the Center for the Advancement of Research and Scholarship, the Office of Grants and Sponsored Projects, the Office of Teaching and Learning, the Office of Institutional Research, and the Office of Assessment.

The Minnock Institute for Global Engagement (MIGE) provides opportunities to the BSU community for academic programs, travel, research, and community service. The Center for Transformative Learning is a hub for connecting and enhancing BSU's high-impact practices (HIPs), including community engagement, internships, global learning, undergraduate research, and the Honors Program.

Position Summary

The Administrative Assistant I position serves as the initial contact for both internal and external communications. This position is responsible for providing administrative support, including event planning, for the Office of the Provost and its senior members. Additionally, support for the Center for Transformative Learning may be required as determined by the Assistant Provost for Transformative Learning.

The selected individual for this position will demonstrate excellent communication and organizational skills, experience managing multiple calendars, a keen attention to detail, and will provide a positive, professional, knowledgeable, and accessible image of the department.

Tour of Duty: Monday - Friday, 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM (Subject to Change) (Sat. and Sun as days off)

This position is located on BSU's campus, Bridgewater, MA. This position may be eligible for a hybrid work schedule in accordance with BSU remote work policy, up to a maximum of 2 days per week.

Essential Duties

  • Addressing divisional inquiries by providing information or appropriate direction.
  • Scheduling appointments, maintaining calendars, and assisting with travel arrangements (planning, reimbursement, etc.).
  • Preparing correspondence and maintaining office records.
  • Assisting with projects as a team member in the Office of the Provost.
  • Maintaining the office supply closet and divisional bulletin board, as well as the appearance of the office's reception area.
  • Assisting Center for Transformational Learning staff with logistics for events (e.g., room reservations, catering orders).
  • Providing administrative support to the Faculty Development Leadership Group (FDLG). Duties include, but are not limited to, maintaining internal websites, scheduling room reservations, coordinating inventory for event material, ordering food, scheduling meetings, etc.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Applicants must have at least (A) one year of full-time, or equivalent part-time, experience in office management, office administration, business administration or business management, the major duties of which included one or more of the following functions: purchasing, personnel management, budgeting, accounting, records management, work simplification, grants management, contract administration or program management, (B) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below:
    • An Associate's or higher degree with a major in business administration, business management or public administration may be substituted for the required experience.
    • An Associate's or higher degree with a major other than in business administration, business management or public administration may be substituted for a maximum of one year of the required experience.

  • Ability to deal tactfully with others; ability to work effectively in a team environment as well as independently.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

* Working knowledge of the Banner System for acquisition of Student Records.
* Ability to adapt to new technology and address existing and future process needs.
* Experience working in a higher education environment.
