Scheduling Analyst (All Levels)

Job Summary:

Seeking a candidate to fill the role of Natural Gas Scheduler at SouthStar Energy Services.  Primary responsibility is the nomination and confirmation of gas flows across various pipelines to meet utility required daily demand.  The job will require work outside of traditional working hours for evening and weekend coverage to ensure gas deliveries across all confirming cycles of the NAESB nomination cycle timeline. 

The position may be filled as a Scheduling Analyst I (Grade Level 4). Scheduling Analyst II (Grade Level 5) or Scheduling Analyst Senior (Grade Level 6). Individuals who demonstrate advanced skills in terms of work experience, education and certifications may be eligible for the advanced grade. 

Job Responsibilities & Accountabilities by Competency

Functional Expertise:    

  • Will personally perform nominations necessary to schedule natural gas inherent in SouthStar’s day to day trading activities and 100% scheduling accuracy across all five scheduling cycles within the gas day. 
  • Responsible for the input of scheduling data into the ETRM system to accurately track movement of gas to ensure the proper costing to each SouthStar market segment.  

Business Acumen:    

  • Must understand the tariff and FERC policies regarding scheduling as well as interstate capacity and storage and maintain full compliance.
  • Identify any inefficiencies in current front office scheduling activities and work with direct manager to implement necessary changes to improve workflow and effectiveness.    

Engagement:    

  • Will work with mid office to ensure timely data entry as well as full compliance with all federal and state tariffs and FERC guidelines that SouthStar is subject to.   
  • Work with accounting to ensure accurate gas costs for each market.

Driving Results:    

  • Monitors consumption imbalances for all markets and takes necessary actions to minimize financial impact. 
  • Assists in daily and monthly supply decisions to maximize economic value creation as it pertains to cash outs, imbalances and utility storage services. 
  • Assists in developing monthly purchasing strategies.  

Qualifications

Education, Certifications/Licenses:  

  • Required:  Bachelor’s degree
  • Preferred: MBA or Bachelor's degree in business, engineering or quantitative study

Related Work Experience:

Required:

Grade Level 4: 

  • 0-2 years' experience in natural gas, power trading, or other commodity environment (Educational experience can be considered in lieu of scheduling experience)

Grade Level 5: 

  • 5 years' experience in natural gas power trading, or other commodity environment 

Grade Level 6:

  • 10 years' experience in natural gas trading environment

*Applicants may possess a combination of equivalent education and work experience.

Specific Skills & Knowledge: 

Required: 

Grade Level 4:  

  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel (can write complex formulas and functions)
  • Some knowledge of US natural gas pipeline grids and interplay between

Grade Level 5:  

  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel (can write complex formulas and functions)
  • Working knowledge of US natural gas pipeline grids and interplay between
  • Working knowledge of Pipeline EBB systems
  • Working knowledge of ETRM systems and importance of that tool

 Grade Level 6:  

  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel (can write complex formulas and functions)
  • Working knowledge of US natural gas pipeline grids and interplay between
  • Working knowledge of Pipeline EBB systems
  • Working knowledge of ETRM systems and importance of that tool
  • Trading experience with natural gas or another commodity

 Preferred: 

  • Thorough understanding of national retail choice markets, including Georgia, Illinois, Ohio, Michigan and Pennsylvania
  • High level of expertise with OpenLink ETRM

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:  

  • This position requires up to 5% travel.  Trips may require air travel and/or overnight stays away from home for one or more nights
  • This position will work in a hybrid office environment and subject to change at any time for business needs with rotating nights and weekend shifts.
