We are looking for an Apparel Technical Developer (Sportswear) for one of our retail clients. This is a 3-month hybrid role starting in early January, working from the Denver, CO office on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.
Responsibilities
- Manage moderate complexity technical development of assigned new styles from design concept through to production readiness, while ensuring the fit and construction/BOM meets or exceeds expectations of quality and cost. Support team on carryover, blanks, and BOM admin.
- Create and maintain documentation of style information, BOMs, and product specifications and follow best practices around the process with oversight by the manager.
- Plan and track the development schedule of prototypes, fittings, and comments while effectively managing deadlines and deliverables with support from the manager.
- Lead fit sessions with support and coaching from Senior TD and Manager to further develop fit skills on form and on model.
- Utilize relevant software to evaluate patterns, practice fit issue identification skills, and make corresponding pattern corrections with manager oversight. Train and work in 3D software to edit blocks in accordance with Block Usage Guidelines and/or leverage vendor-created 3D assets for development to shorten prototype approvals and iterations.
- Engage with cross-functional partners (Design, PM, Costing, Standards, Sourcing, etc.) to develop meaningful individual working relationships to execute deliverables:
- Partner with Product Managers/Design to understand the fit intent and aesthetic of styles to translate this to 3D/Physical Proto Samples, while recommending appropriate construction and advise on proper fit to elevate and align product.
- Work with the Standards Team to ensure all products within the assigned category are aligned to the client’s fit standards, guidelines, and block usage targets
- Provide solutions related to cost engineering and adhering to the target margins with support from Costing
- Starts and leads special projects, process or calendar optimization with minimal supervision
- Execute specific tasks within the scope of special projects as delegated and inform possible future projects by sharing experiences and insights.
- Some travel overseas to manufacturers may be required
- Mentor and coach Associate level on an intermittent basis, where able. Expected to actively seek support and guidance from manager and Senior TDs.
Skills
- Years of related professional experience: 5-8 years
- Bachelor’s Degree in apparel fashion, product development, manufacturing, or comparable job experience
- Experience in working and collaborating with and traveling independently to offshore vendors
- Experience with 3D design programs (Browzwear: V Stitcher, Clo3D, Optitex) is a plus. Will have access to further on-the-job training for Browzwear
- Experience in Pattern CAD software such as Gerber, Optitex, V-stitcher
- Experience with PLM/PDM systems
- Ability to make and suggest pattern fit corrections and on-body fit corrections with a desire to continually develop and refine
- Proficiency in Bill of Materials, Garment Specs, Tech Packs
- A team player with the ability to collaborate cross-functionally
- Mid-level technical knowledge in terms of Outdoor Products relating to garment fit, construction, quality, materialization, and excellent attention to detail
- Proactive problem-solving and solution-focused with a growth mindset
- A keen interest in innovation and a passion for technical product
- An ability to work under pressure and navigate change with open-mindedness and flexibility
- Working proficiency in Windows applications and Adobe Creative Suite
- Strong verbal and written communication skills including the ability to effectively communicate with global partners
- Fluency in the English language, both written and verbal
The target hiring compensation range for this role is the equivalent of $59.99 to $66.66 an hour. Compensation is based on several factors including, but not limited to education, relevant work experience, relevant certifications, and location.
