Civil/Mechanical Construction Coordinator / Lead / Engineer – Thermal Generation
This position is responsible for coordinating, scheduling adherence, facilitating and inspecting the daily heavy civil and/or mechanical construction and sitework activities for TSS Projects. This position will have direct responsibilities and oversight for the site construction activities, contract management, cost management, and contractor management.
Summary of Position Duties:
- Abide by all safety rules and help establish and maintain a culture focused on safety.
- Help establish and maintain a culture of inclusiveness and teamwork.
- Inspection of construction and sitework installations for compliance with drawings and specifications.
- Assist in the planning for proper sequence and schedule of construction and sitework activities to ensure completion within schedule and budget requirements.
- Maintain an awareness of measurable quantities to be installed and monitor progress versus schedule requirements.
- Identify installation problems, assist in developing solutions, and ensure corrective actions are taken by the craft, contractor, or vendor in accordance with an approved plan.
- Maintain an awareness of equipment and material transportation schedules to ensure support of construction activities.
- Assist site management in administration of the contract(s), including but not limited to reporting, invoicing, scheduling, change management, etc.
- Monitor best management practices for erosion and sediment management.
- Daily reporting of jobsite conditions, construction activities, progress, and unforeseen conditions.
Education & Job Experience:
- Associates (2-year) or bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, building science, or construction management is a plus, but not required.
- 1-4 years construction experience working on large, heavy industrial projects is required.
- 1-4 years experience in large industrial construction contracts
- Certified Welding Inspector – certification is a plus.
- Power generation or oil refinery experience preferred.
- Construction contract management experience is preferred.
- Experience in the following areas is preferred:
- Civil sitework and/or civil design.
- GSWCC Level 1A certification.
- Earthwork and water management processes.
- Operation of large sitework equipment and utilization.
- Mechanical/ductwork/piping construction.
- Rigging and lifting.
- Multi-discipline knowledge in heavy industrial construction is a plus.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Thorough knowledge of OSHA and applicable environmental regulations.
- Adequate knowledge of construction standard practices, techniques, quality requirements, applicable codes and standards.
- Adequate knowledge of construction contracts and labor agreements.
- Proven risk assessment skills and sound judgment/decision making.
- Ability to interface with contractors, designers, vendors, and other project stakeholders.
- Ability to identify technical problems and assist in providing resolutions to problems.
- Adequate interpersonal and communication skills working with customer leadership.
- Ability to utilize Microsoft Office Suite and SharePoint sites.
- Ability to resolve issues relative to contractors and contracts.
- Ability to build strong working relationships with a wide range of Southern Company Generation organizations.
- Strong organizational, administrative, time management, project management, facilitation and analytical skills are required.
- Self-motivation and demonstrated initiative are crucial for this position.
- Ability to interface with vendors and contractors while representing the best interests of Southern Company.
