Clinical Dietitian/In-Patient; On-Call, Kula Hospital
Job Description
Assesses, develops, implements, and monitors patients nutritional needs for delivery of comprehensive nutrition care services. Plans, develops, and participates in providing nutrition information through educational program and nutrition handouts. Assists with planning, development, and implementation of department programs, policies, and goals.Essential Responsibilities:
- Develops, implements, monitors, and coordinates nutritional care plan based on assessment to clients needs with other health professionals.
- Counsels individuals and family members on nutritional principles, dietary plans, food selection and economics of nutrition. Adapts plans to individual clients needs, lifestyle and cultural eating habits. Provides follow-up and makes appropriate referrals based on needs of individual.
- Plans and evaluates menus to meet nutritional needs of patients with consideration for food preferences.
- Communicates nutritional care data through record systems to include Medical Records, Dietary Information Record and Special Consult Referrals.
- Provides consultation to medical team in prescription of diets, nutritional assessments, enteral and parental feedings.
- Participates in discharge planning. Recommends home care nutritional needs.
- Interprets, evaluates, and utilizes current research to achieve effective nutritional care. Attends professional workshops, seminars, and lectures to keep informed of current practices and trends in dietetics and to maintain professional registration.
- Develops, implements, and evaluates ongoing patient food quality surveys to maintain quality standards of care.
- Develops, organizes, and conducts orientation and in-service education/training programs for professional, non-professional staff and food service personnel. Participates in health education activities to include health fairs and community events.
- Compiles, develops, and disseminates nutrition educational materials to include diet instruction handouts, posters, patient tray notes and newsletter articles.
- Oversees dietary personnel to ensure compliance to food production, food service, sanitation, safety, security and health regulations/standards.
- Assists in developing and updating work schedules and job descriptions for food service personnel.
- Develops and implements short and long-range departmental goals and objectives consistent with departmental and organizational policies.
Basic Qualifications: Experience
- Six months related experience or successful completion of training program (pre-hire, post-hire, or on-the-job) in area of specialty, if applicable.
- Bachelors degree in food and nutritional sciences or related field.
- Accredited Dietetic Internship (DI) by the American Dietetic Association (ADA).
- CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers required at hire OR Basic Life Support required at hire
- Registered Dietitian from American Dietetic Association
- Ability to effectively use resources for research.
- Demonstrated knowledge of and skill in interpersonal relations, customer service, problem solving, adaptability, decision making, oral communication and written communication.
- One year as clinical dietitian.
- Demonstrated knowledge of and skill in word processing, spreadsheet and database PC applications.
- State of Hawaii License Dietitian (LD)
- Masters degree with an ADA approved internship program.
