JOB DESCRIPTION
We are seeking a skilled Database Administrator (DBA) to support enterprise database platforms across production and non-production environments. This role will be responsible for database administration, backup and recovery operations, incident management, performance monitoring, and 24x7 operational support through shift rotation and on-call schedules.
The ideal candidate will have practical expertise in at least two database technologies such as IBM Db2, Oracle Database, Microsoft SQL Server, PostgreSQL, IMS / Db2 z/OS, along with strong operating system knowledge in Linux, AIX, or Windows.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Database Administration
- Create, configure, and maintain new database environments.
- Perform database upgrades, patching, migrations, and lifecycle management.
- Configure database security standards including users, roles, privileges, and access controls.
- Validate database backup integrity and recoverability.
Backup & Recovery Operations
- Perform database backup, restore, and recovery operations using enterprise tools such as:
- Commvault
- Execute point-in-time restores, refreshes, and disaster recovery activities.
- Support regular backup validation and compliance requirements.
Incident & Request Management
- Monitor ticket queues and respond to incidents and service requests.
- Resolve issues in accordance with agreed service levels (SLA).
- Coordinate with infrastructure, application, and vendor teams for issue resolution.
- Perform root cause analysis and implement preventive actions.
Performance Monitoring & Troubleshooting
- Proactively monitor database health, availability, and performance.
- Troubleshoot database-related issues involving connectivity, locks, slow queries, space, jobs, and backups.
- Recommend tuning improvements for performance and stability.
Workload Management & Project Support
- Support workload fluctuations driven by project activity and business priorities.
- Deliver support based on agreed prioritization and contracted capacity.
- Participate in database builds, migrations, upgrades, and project releases.
Operations Support
- Work within a team supporting multiple databases in a rotational shift model.
- Provide after-hours support for Severity 1 / Critical production incidents.
- Participate in planned maintenance windows and weekend support when required.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related field.
- 3+ years of database administration experience in enterprise environments.
- Hands-on expertise in at least two of the following:
- IBM Db2 on Linux, UNIX, and Windows
- Oracle Database
- Microsoft SQL Server
- PostgreSQL
- IMS / Db2 z/OS
- Experience with backup and recovery tools such as IBM Storage Protect and Commvault
- Strong operating system knowledge in:
- Linux
- AIX
- Windows Server
- Willingness to work shift rotation and on-call schedules.
- Rotational shift support across multiple databases.
- Participation in after-hours on-call support for critical incidents.
- Weekend maintenance support as required.
- Database certifications in Db2, Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, or Mainframe technologies.
- Exposure to cloud platforms, containers, or enterprise monitoring tools such as SolarWinds
- Knowledge of HA/DR technologies and clustering solutions.
