Data Replication Specialist - Backup
Job Description
Job#: 3022185
Job Description:
This position is for a Data Replication Specialist supporting a Department of Defense (DoD) program operating a large‑scale, containerized, Kubernetes‑based, multitenant hosting environment used for enterprise and distributed applications across multiple global sites. The role supports a secure, mission‑critical environment, and therefore requires an active DoD clearance.
The hosting environment leverages Kubernetes and potentially Red Hat OpenShift to implement a cloud‑native, software‑defined infrastructure. Enterprise backup and replication tools (e.g., Kasten K10, Velero, TrilioVault, CloudCasa, Cohesity DataProtect, or similar) are used to provide distributed backup, replication, and disaster recovery capabilities across remote locations.
The organization delivers managed services and infrastructure hosting across a regulated DoD ecosystem, supporting multiple application teams and mission requirements.
Position Duties- Develop an enterprise‑level backup and data replication solution using Kubernetes‑native backup technologies across all supported sites.
- Automate backup, replication, and recovery processes for Kubernetes clusters, containerized applications, and virtual machines.
- Configure and manage Kubernetes‑native backup tools, including support for persistent volumes, CSI drivers, and application‑aware backups.
- Use Infrastructure as Code (IaC) to implement and manage backup configuration for newly onboarded applications and isolated customer environments.
- Perform daily administration of backup tools, including patching, upgrades, monitoring, and schedule optimization.
- Track backup resource usage and advise leadership when additional capacity or infrastructure is needed.
- Harden backup tools and workflows in alignment with cybersecurity best practices and DoD program requirements.
- Troubleshoot and conduct root cause analysis on backup‑related issues across clusters, containers, and VMs.
- Develop and maintain documentation, including diagrams, configuration details, and standard operating procedures.
- Provide on‑call after‑hours support for production incident triage and resolution.
- Recommend service and capability improvements for backup and recovery operations.
- Senior‑level experience with enterprise backup, replication, and recovery solutions in Kubernetes environments.
- Experience supporting backup/replication across multi‑site Kubernetes deployments.
- Strong automation/IaC experience with tools such as Terraform, Ansible, Vault, etc.
- Knowledge of security hardening practices (including STIG‑like or industry best practices).
- Experience with containerization and orchestration tools (Kubernetes, OpenShift).
- Proficiency in scripting languages (Python, PowerShell, Bash).
- Strong troubleshooting skills across the technology stack: network, storage, servers, containers, and applications.
- Security+ or equivalent IAT Level II certification.
- Ability to obtain a computing environment certification (e.g., vendor‑specific backup/replication certification) within 6 months of hire.
- Must be capable of acquiring/maintaining an Active DoD clearance for employment.
- Remote - within 4.5 hours of Washington DC
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in an IT‑related field.
