Director, US Medical Operations

Job Description

The role of the Director, US Medical Operations for the Oncology therapeutic area is essential to support the execution in a timely manner of the Medical Affairs Plans and Tactics, to support the budgeting exercise and to track and monitor against the plan.

The Medical Operations Director will work closely with the Therapeutic Area Head of Oncology, Head of Oncology Business Operations, USMALs and their teams, and the Medical Experts for oncology.

This is a key opportunity to partner with the US Medical Oncology Leadership Team and to manage and drive Medical business, process and organization change projects to deliver the on strategic goals. The role will involve close liaison with the Head of Business Operations for USMA Oncology and opportunity to become involved in broader initiatives.

Key Responsibilities: This role will provide YOU the opportunity to lead key activities to progress YOUR career, these responsibilities include some of the following.

  • Spearhead and drive launch innovation in the tracking and communication medical activities for product launches.

  • Integrate business development activities into the oncology medical operations strategy, ensuring alignment with overarching business development goals and objectives.

  • Provide support to coordinate diligence activities and resourcing assessments, and support business integration activities.

  • Support the execution and timely delivery of Medical Affairs Plans Tactics, including budgeting exercises and tracking/monitoring against the plans

  • Provide oversight, direction and coordination of strategic change and key process improvement initiatives to ensure that Medical oncology delivers their business goals in alignment with the overall strategic objectives for Oncology and GSK.

  • Oversee program vendor management in collaboration with the procurement to ensure program vendors and third-party entities required to achieve medical oncology objectives are effectively managed.

  • Lead additional strategic initiatives, process improvement changes, and other strategic projects and programs in close collaboration with the other Strategy and Operations Director, ensuring alignment with the overall strategic objectives for Oncology and GSK.

  • Contribute to the development of processes to enable the organization to achieve the most effective balance of organizational change

  • Support the clear communication of oncology value, alignment to the business’ objectives to the wider organization

We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:

  • Bachelor's degree

  • Experience managing financial and contractual aspects of assigned projects, including vendor negotiations.

  • Experience in pharmaceutical, healthcare or related industry

  • Experience in Medical Affairs strategic planning and implementation

  • Experience leading complex transformational business/process improvement and/or change management projects

  • Experience in Portfolio, program and project management

  • Business consultancy background/qualifications

  • Matrix management experience

  • Product launch experience

  • Experience within pharmaceutical drug development and commercialization lifecycle

  • Experience in project management functions such as project planning and management, risk & issue management, stakeholder management, communication planning and change management

Preferred Qualifications:

If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus:

  • Advanced Masters or MBA degree

  • PMP certification

  • Higher degree preferred preferably with scientific and project management background and/or experience in the medical sciences field (eg.: PhD, PharmD)

  • influencing skills and clear ability to work effectively in cross functional team environment
