Job Description
Leads and Performs diagnostic ultrasound examinations, including 2D echo, Doppler, stress, dobutamine, and other echocardiographic tests.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Obtains pertinent clinical information from patient, medical chart, and/or physician using accepted standard techniques.
- Communicates purpose and procedures related to the ultrasound test to the patient and comforts/reassures patient about the examination.
- Performs 2D echo,, Doppler, stress, and other echocardiographic examinations to provide anatomic and physiologic data for physicians review.
- Notifies physician of patient distress and/or severe abnormal readings.
- Provides assistance and training in the Echocardiograph Laboratory and maintains appropriate training documentation materials.
- Participates in the development of effective Quality Assurance/Quality Improvement (QA/QI) activities to improve quality of care.
- Performs other related duties as directed.
Basic Qualifications: Experience
- Minimum one (1) year of experience in ultrasound procedures/equipment, CW Doppler, and related anatomy/pathological conditions of and related to the heart required.
- Per the National Agreement, current KP Coalition employees have this experience requirement waived.
- Associates degree in the medical/technical field or two (2) years of experience in a directly related field required.
- High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) required.
- Cardiographic Technician Certificate OR Registered Vascular Specialist Certificate OR Registered Cardiac Sonographer Certificate OR Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer Certificate
- Basic Life Support
- Must have visual accuracy and ability to effectively communicate with members.
- Mobility required to perform and monitor tests, i.e., operating equipment and preparing patients for multiple types of tests.
- In order to work effectively with patients, must have effective interpersonal and communication skills and be able to stand, walk, bend, lift at least 50 pounds, hear, speak and see.
- Must be able to work in a Labor/Management Partnership environment.
