Summary:
The Emergency Department Tech is responsible for coordinating and delivering clinical patient care under the direction of a Registered Nurse in a hospital setting.


Responsibilities:

  • Assist physicians, nurses and other health care providers with routine examinations and procedures, as well as procurement of equipment and supplies during emergency situations.  

  • Observes, collects, and documents patient information obtained while providing care and promptly report significant changes in the patient's condition to a registered nurse or physician.  

  • Assists patients and their families during admission or discharge to/from the clinical area. 

  • Provides care/ treatments to patients as outlined in plan of care including, but not limited to: 

  • Monitoring of vital signs 

  • Measurement of height and weight 

  • Specimen collection  

  • Catheter care 

  • Capillary blood glucose checks 

  • Simple wound care 

  • Assist patients with routine activities of daily living (ADL) such as bathing, dressing, feeding and assisting with ambulation as outlined in plan of care  

  • Maintains an effective clinical work environment including but not limited to cleaning the work area, changing linens, maintaining and monitoring supply levels, and transporting patients / specimens throughout hospital.

Required

  • Must have a clinical credential in either nursing assistant (CNA) or emergency medical tech (EMT) discipline. Accepted nursing credentials are Nurse Aide I registration by the NC Division of Health Services or Nurse Aide II licensure as administered by the North Carolina Board of Nursing (NCBON). Accepted Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) credential is EMT-Basic as issued by North Carolina Office of Emergency Medical Services (NCOEMS). Licensure with the North Carolina Office of Emergency Medical Services through the legal recognition process is required within 90 days of employment should you hold a National Registry of Emergency Medical Technician (NREMT) certification.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
