Chesapeake Parks, Recreation & Tourism is seeking a dependable, customer-service-oriented Equipment Operator II to help maintain the City's athletic fields, parks, and municipal grounds.
Primary Duties:
- Operate specialized equipment-including dump trucks, loaders, tractors, commercial mowers, and assorted power/hand tools-to complete tasks such as grading, digging, mowing, trimming, landscaping, aeration, edging, mulching, fertilizing, and debris removal.
- Prepare athletic fields by setting goal posts, bases, pitcher's mounds, and lining turf and infields; perform topdressing, dragging, and raking.
- Perform routine inspections and minor maintenance on equipment; report malfunctions and damages.
- Assist with maintenance and repairs of facilities, fencing, tennis courts, nets, lighting systems, scoreboards, signs, walkways, roads, and parking areas.
- Provide excellent internal and external customer service and respond to service requests in support of the City's Customer Service Initiative.
- Work collaboratively with other City departments, schools, and sports associations to support high-quality athletic programs.
- Conduct litter control, empty trash cans weekly, and perform occasional custodial duties such as cleaning and stocking restrooms.
- Complete safety inspections of fields, parks, parking lots, sidewalks, and facilities, making necessary repairs to ensure safe conditions for citizens and visitors.
