UNC Health Care is recruiting for a Gaming and Technology Specialist PD to join our UNC Children’s Hospital team located on the beautiful campus of UNC Chapel Hill. We are seeking someone who can combine understanding of child development with their knowledge of available technology and innovation to facilitate enriching experiences for our pediatric patients. The ideal candidate possesses this diverse background, as well as strong interpersonal skills, flexibility, and creativity to support patients and families in the hospital setting through the use of different media platforms.
This position offers variable hours, Sunday through Saturday between the hours of 7:00 am and 7:00 pm, including holiday options.
Summary:
Utilizes knowledge of child development, special needs children, and available technology and innovation to facilitate enriching experiences for patients. Supports patient and family with the hospitalization coping process while utilizing different media platforms.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborates with interdisciplinary team members to determine appropriate gaming and technology recommendations for individualized interventions and resources and/or referral for other services with the overall treatment plan.
- Plans for all needed gaming and technology resources to support patient coping and adjustment needs including distraction, relaxation, and normalization.
- Develops new or revises existing programs & interventions to reflect current patients' needs, interests and abilities and to promote safety in compliance with departmental performance expectations.
- Provides technology assistance to Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Speech Language Pathology, Recreational Therapy, Music Therapy, and Child Life to support therapeutic interventions.
- Train and supervise gaming and technology volunteers and students.
- Develops and facilitates community outreach programs that promote the organization and the health and wellbeing of patients in accordance with departmental performance expectations.

● Bachelor’s Degree in child development, education, IT, or related field.
Licensure/Certification Requirements:
Professional Experience Requirements:
● Minimum of two (2) years of experience in computer support or equivalent combination of training and/or experience preferred.
● Experience working with children, teens and adults required. Experience working in a hospital setting preferred
Knowledge/Skills/and Abilities Requirements:
● Technical expertise with gaming systems, gaming technology and computer technology required.
● Strong understanding of gaming platforms (Xbox, Sony, Nintendo, etc.) required.
● Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and ability to learn other software as needed.
● Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to manage sensitive and confidential situations with tact, professionalism, and diplomacy.
● Excellent organizational skills, detail-oriented, a self-starter, possess critical thinking skills and the ability to set priorities and function as part of a team and independently.
