Plant Health Physicist - Plant Hatch

Southern Nuclear, headquartered in Birmingham, AL, operates Southern Company's eight nuclear reactors at three locations in Georgia and Alabama: four reactors at Plant Vogtle, near Waynesboro, GA; two reactors at Plant Hatch, near Baxley, GA; and two reactors at Plant Farley, near Dothan, AL. Summary of Position Duties
Monitoring all aspects of the Radiation Protection program and performance indicators to include:
- Implementing special projects to improve Radiation Protection Programs
- Implementing RP Technical Programs and associated responsibilities
- Site dosimetry support
- Tracking/Trending all radiological data related to plant performance indicators
- Benchmarking industry on Radiation Protection issues and site performance
- Filling the Emergency Response Organization position
- Additional support for RP department responsibilities as needed
- Administrative and document control duties as required
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Education
- Associates Degree in Radiation Protection Technology, a Physical Science or equivalent required
- Bachelor’s Degree in Radiation Protection, Physics, Engineering, Chemistry or other physical science preferred.
- Masters Degree Health Physics or Engineering preferred.
- NRRPT or CHP preferred
Background/Experience Requirements
- Experience in Health Physics or Radiation Protection programs is required
- BWR experience is preferred
- Experience with nuclear power plant outages, access control is preferred
- Applicant must be able to obtain an unescorted badge at all SNC sites
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Strong computer skills including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and databases are highly desirable
- Outstanding oral and written communication skills are required. Strong presentation skills are also required
- Strong ability to make decisions and drive behaviors is required
- Strong interpersonal skills are required
- Strong working knowledge of BWR nuclear power plant systems, processes, and procedures and clear understanding of and ability to apply regulatory requirements to plant settings are preferred
- Ability to balance multiple objectives and set priorities is required
- Ability to work independently
- Ability to problem solve and seek alternative solutions to complex issues is needed
