Job Purpose

As a Helper in the Gas Operations and Construction Department for Long Island, you will experience the personal challenge of working for a world class organization and leader in the Utilities and Energy Industry.

These vacancies may occur at any of the following locations: Brentwood, Greenlawn, Patchogue, Riverhead

Key Accountabilities

  • Perform traffic control, flagging functions.
  • Perform manual-laboring work such as digging, backfilling, breaking and removing; pavement, (asphalt /concrete).
  • Helper may work with heavy pneumatic tools; Provide physical assistance for setting up and operating underground tools; work with higher-classified personnel by performing laboring functions in connection with the higher classification. This includes strenuous work through out the day (including but not limited to) squatting, walking, lifting tools and materials greater than 80lbs.
  • Perform similar or less-skilled work as assigned

Qualifications

  • Three years similar or related work. Plumbing experience preferred.
  • Should be mechanically inclined and capable of performing strenuous work.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • NOTE: Must successfully complete the following: - Pre-assessment testing, regulatory safety training, traffic control/flagger training, Gas Fundamentals training, Abnormal Operating Condition Operator qualification training, Soft-Tissue Injury Prevention training, and Helper-specific training programs.
  • Candidates must possess a valid State Drivers License

Pay Rate: $24.19 an hour

Please be advised that due to the nature of this position, incumbents are subject to federal Drug & Alcohol safety regulations governing US Department of Transportation ("DOT") covered positions, including the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) and Pipeline Hazardous Material Safety Administration (PHMSA). As such, the Company's testing programs and policies regarding the use of federally prohibited drugs or alcohol, for recreational or medical purposes, will remain in effect for these safety-sensitive, DOT covered positions.

Many of the terms and conditions of employment for this position are defined by a collective bargaining agreement that the Company has with a local union. Newly hired employees are bound by the terms of the collective bargaining agreement as well as other agreements between the Company and the local union.
