Position Summary
This position is responsible for establishing database management systems, database standards, guidelines and quality assurance rules for database deliverables, such as conceptual design, performance tuning, logical databases, capacity planning, external data interface specifications, data loading plans, data maintenance plans, and security policies.
The IBM i DB2 Database Administrator is actively involved in the evaluation, review, and management of database resources and services across the organization in order to ensure that a high level of database integrity is reached and maintained. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of supporting large scale database infrastructure in close collaboration with peer teams and vendors. The role provides the database expertise needed for the team’s success. This individual will also be required to develop, follow and enforce database standards.
This position requires an individual who works with minimal supervision on a wide range of projects interfacing with peer support teams, development teams and IT management. The Database Administrator is constantly ensuring that their work is aligned with the business and technology customers.
Essential Functions
- Meets regularly with leadership and IT teams to discuss opportunities for improvement across Guild's database systems.
- Deploys and maintains Database infrastructure/objects.
- Maintains database security, integrity, and availability.
- Manages database performance and capacity.
- Implements database design enhancements.
- Collaborates with the Software Development team and the server administrators for the planning and implementation recommended index maintenance, table reorgs, data purging etc.
- Reviews and implements processes for table and index creation using the change management system.
- Establishes procedures for backup/recovery and disaster recovery.
- Establishes database security procedures.
- Maintains current knowledge of industry trends and standards.
- Provides support to the user community using incident and problem management tools.
- Installs, configures, and maintains IBM i-based database artifacts (DB2 for i, ) and ensures they are optimized for performance.
- Collaborates with internal teams for Backup/Recovery and HA/DR solutions for IBM i-based database applications.
- Continuously monitors and optimizes the performance of IBM i database systems, including query optimization, indexing, and system resources management.
- Implements security measures to protect sensitive data, including user access control, auditing, and encryption. Ensures compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Plans and evaluates impact with OS upgrades and patches on IBMi for minimal disruption to business operations.
- Diagnoses and resolves database-related issues, including system performance, connectivity, and integrity issues.
- Performs regular database maintenance tasks, including reorganization, index rebuilds, and data archiving.
- Highly collaborative: Works with developers and other IT teams to design and optimize database schemas, stored procedures, functions, and queries. Assists in database-related development and deployment tasks.
- Maintains comprehensive documentation related to database configurations, procedures and Design/Architecture of the database.
- Performs regularly scheduled capacity planning activities providing required storage recommendations.
- Coordinates interaction with appropriate IT support areas to resolve critical database problem situations.
Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or directly related field to the position or Ability to organize and manage multiple priorities simultaneously. Ability to work well independently or within a team. Strong interpersonal and customer service skills. Ability to accurately interpret sounds and associated meanings at a volume consistent with interpersonal conversation. Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word to impart oral information to clients or the public and to convey detailed spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly. Schedules: Work is primarily performed during the business week, Monday - Friday. Occasional night or weekend may be necessary.
