Position: Senior Platform Engineer

Location: Sterling, VA

Project Duration: 12 months w/ possibility of extension or conversion

Rate: Negotiable Based on Experience

Senior Platform Engineer – Linux Infrastructure

Location: Dulles, VA (On-site, SCIF environment)

Travel: Up to 10%

Clearance Required: Active TS/SCI with CI Poly (U.S. Citizenship required)

Role Overview

Our client is seeking a Senior Platform Engineer with strong Linux infrastructure experience to support operations and maintenance (O&M) activities at a secure customer site near Dulles, VA. This role involves managing hardware and software components to ensure system reliability, scalability, and security.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain and troubleshoot Linux-based systems, including physical servers, networking, storage, and cloud environments.
• Support Echelon 1 (E1) activities to ensure efficient system operations.
• Deploy O&M patches and baseline updates.
• Participate in enterprise integration efforts and technical interchange meetings.
• Document system defects and collaborate with operators and partners.
• Provide occasional off-hours support as part of a call-in rotation.
• Travel to other customer sites or factory locations as needed.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field (Computer Science, Engineering, IT, Physics) and 5+ years of relevant experience.
• Proficiency in:
  • Linux system administration (RHEL/Oracle Linux preferred)
  • VMware (vCenter, ESXi)
  • LDAP (user/group management)
• Active TS/SCI clearance with CI Poly (required on Day 1).

Preferred Qualifications

• Bash scripting
• Hardware maintenance and FRU replacement
• Out-of-band management (iDRAC, terminal servers)
• Experience with Dell and Cisco hardware
• NTP, DNS, NFS administration
• Smart PDU management
• LAN and firewall configuration (Cisco preferred)
• Familiarity with Nagios, Windows OS, SAN/NAS administration
