Interconnections & Planning Distribution Supervisor
Job Description
JOB SUMMARY
This position provides leadership and supervision for the Distribution Interconnections Planning team for the interconnection of Distributed Generation (DG) resources on Georgia Power’s Distribution system. This team coordinates inputs from various departments within Georgia Power, Southern Company Services and the Georgia Integrated Transmission System (ITS) Participants for proposed DG Interconnection requests. The team leads the studies of proposed projects originating from renewable Georgia Public Service Commission-approved Distributed Generation RFPs and various customer-owned generation programs. In addition to working closely with our Renewable and Regulatory teams, this position ensures compliance with FERC, NERC, SERC, Southern Company, and ITS Reliability guidelines as well as IEEE standards.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Education:
- Four (4) year B.S. Engineering Degree or Engineering Technology Degree highly preferred – Electrical preferred
Experience Requirements:
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in planning, design, operations, or maintenance of the electric transmission or distribution system is strongly preferred. Distribution Planning experience and Georgia Integrated Transmission System (ITS) planning experience desired.
- Specific experience related to generator interconnection process and implementation desired.
- Working knowledge of the electric Transmission and Distribution system including substation facilities
- Experience engaging in industry standards or peer-utility committee meetings is desired
- Proven experience in fostering an inclusive work environment for all employees.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Performance Management skills to coach lesser-experienced team members and guide experienced team members to implement process improvements
- Must possess excellent written and oral communication skills and can communicate at all levels including external public.
- The ability to work well and lead within cross-functional teams is critical.
- Strong technical abilities, proven in past assignments.
- Strong interpersonal skills and proven ability to build strong relationships.
- Must possess excellent contract and procedural management skills.

Job Responsibilities
- Provides performance management & workload balancing, ensuring quality and timely responses to Interconnection requests to meet required deadlines set by regulators or other stakeholders.
- Establishes training and development needs for Interconnection Planners and increases bench strength on technical leadership for Generator Interconnections.
- Provides direct supervision to distribution interconnection engineering team and contractors. Manage contractor utilization required to support increase in workload from IRP requirements, as well as preparing for future growth in renewable interconnection projects.
- Provides input to RFP development and Bid selection process as a member of GPC RFP Bid evaluation teams.
- Provide representation for GPC on interconnection matters at the Southern Company level including Power Delivery Policy and provide expertise on Generator Interconnections associated with ITS participants.
- Provide input to future IRP, DER strategy, and interconnection policies.
- Engaged in industry committees and working groups.
- Reads, interprets, drafts, and communicates policies, procedures, regulatory proceedings and legal agreements.
Other Requirements
- Travel is sometimes required.
- Must live in/near or be willing to relocate within reasonable distance to Atlanta.
- Relocation assistance available if needed.
