Job Title: Microbiology Laboratory Technician (Contract Role)

Location: Ashland, VA

Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM

Start Date: Late September / Early October

Duration: Through end of January (Maternity Leave Coverage)

Interview Process: One round, onsite (1 hour)

We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Microbiology Laboratory Technician to join our team on a short-term contract basis. This role is ideal for candidates with a background in molecular biology, microbiology, biochemistry, or related scientific disciplines. You’ll be working in a fast-paced lab environment, supporting microbiological testing using modern instrumentation and techniques.

• Perform microbiological analysis using aseptic techniques
• Operate laboratory equipment including flow cytometers, thermocyclers, and DNA extraction instruments
• Conduct qPCR testing and interpret results
• Perform serial dilutions and pipetting with precision
• Input and manage sample data using LIMS (training provided)
• Maintain a clean and organized lab space
• Monitor inventory and communicate supply needs
• Attend bi-weekly department meetings and participate in safety audits
• Follow all lab safety protocols and wear appropriate PPE

• Bachelor’s degree in a scientific field (Biology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Chemistry, etc.)
• Foundational understanding of molecular biology techniques
• Familiarity with qPCR and flow cytometry (hands-on experience preferred)
• General lab experience including pipetting and serial dilutions
• Comfortable using basic computer programs (Excel, Word)
• Strong documentation and communication skills
• Experience with LIMS is a plus (training provided)
