Labor Relations Representative – Union Experience
Job Description
Summary:
This position is responsible for administering the job posting process for GPC positions covered under the labor agreement with IBEW Local 84. Key duties include managing job postings, awards, selection processes, and seniority matters.
The role also oversees the incremental increase program for all GPC employees, maintains Oracle data, and coordinates the annual general pay increase process. Additional responsibilities include updating the covered employee database, uniform program, ensuring the Labor Relations (LR) web page seniority list is current, and maintaining accurate records for audit compliance.
Administrative support for the Labor Relations team includes timekeeping, expense management, webpage maintenance, scheduling grievance hearings, processing union dues reports and reimbursements, managing the uniform program, and verifying annual weight program compliance. Occasional overnight travel may be required to meet business needs.
Education and Job Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree OR a minimum of two years related work experience in lieu of degree.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in Human Resources, Transmission, Distribution, Generation, Union environment is required
- Exposure and experience collaborating with employees covered under the union contract preferred.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Working knowledge of labor contracts related to the position (must possess or be willing to acquire)
- Administrative experience in Oracle (highly desired)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Access, Teams)
- Strong accuracy and attention to detail in data management
- Ability to safeguard confidential information appropriately
- Professional representation of Southern Company Labor Relations
- Effective collaboration and communication skills across all levels of management, business units, IBEW, and non-exempt employees
- Ability to meet deadlines and work within time constraints
- Knowledge of Transmission, Distribution, and Generation personnel practices and procedures (a plus)
- Familiarity with union contracts (IBEW) preferred
- Demonstrated initiative and self-starter mindset in daily responsibilities
- Excellent customer service, time management, phone etiquette, interpersonal, and communication skills
- Strong attention to detail, sense of urgency, and ability to maintain accuracy under pressure
