JOB DESCRIPTION

Apex is seeking a consulting professional to join the US & Canada practice within Apex’ Solutions Delivery Organization. This Lead Infrastructure Automation Engineer designs, implements, and maintains automated solutions for enterprise IT infrastructure. This role combines leadership, technical expertise, and collaboration across development, operations, and security teams to ensure scalable, secure, and efficient infrastructure delivery. A strong focus on Terraform as the primary Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tool is essential.

RESPONSIBLITIES

Automation Design & Development

  • Build and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) with a primary focus on Terraform, while also supporting tools like Ansible or CloudFormation.
  • Develop reusable automation frameworks for provisioning servers, networks, and cloud resources.
  • Implement CI/CD pipelines for infrastructure deployments.

Platform & Tooling

  • Manage automation platforms and integrate with DevOps toolchains (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab, Azure DevOps).
  • Ensure compliance and security controls are embedded in automation workflows.

Operational Excellence

  • Monitor infrastructure performance and optimize automation processes.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve infrastructure-related issues in development, test, and production environments.
  • Maintain documentation for automation standards, configurations, and disaster recovery plans.

Leadership & Collaboration

  • Lead a client on the development of an infrastructure version of a software development lifecycle (SDLC).
  • Lead a team of engineers and mentor junior staff.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to align automation strategies with business objectives.
  • Drive adoption of automation best practices across the organization.
  • Identify, coordinate, manage expectations, and offer alternatives when defining customer solutions.
  • Build strong client, industry, and technical community relationships and represent Apex Systems as leaders in Industry and Professional events and communities.
  • Develop and maintain strong internal and external customer relationships.
  • Demonstrate strong technical knowledge and implementation skills.
  • Stay current on relevant technology trends and practices.
  • Build trust and respect among internal and external stakeholders and demonstrate collaborative teamwork.
  • Produce high quality deliverables, meet project deadlines, and take responsibility for engagement success.
  • Demonstrate a passion for quality and process improvement.
  • Demonstrate professional level consulting skills and communication/presentation skills.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • 7+ years of experience in infrastructure engineering, with at least 3 years in automation-focused roles.
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, or related field.
  • Strong proficiency in scripting languages (Python, Bash, or PowerShell).
  • Expertise in cloud platforms (AWS, (Including GovCloud)) and container orchestration (Kubernetes).
  • Hands-on experience with CI/CD tools and configuration management systems.
  • Knowledge of security principles and compliance frameworks (e.g., SOX, HIPAA).
  • Proficiency in Terraform for Infrastructure as Code.

Preferred

  • Certifications: AWS Solutions Architect, Azure DevOps Engineer, or equivalent.
  • Experience with monitoring tools (Datadog, Splunk, New Relic).
  • Familiarity with networking fundamentals and hybrid cloud architecture.
