Job Description

Chesapeake Public Library is looking for a dedicated and enthusiastic Library Assistant II to work in Youth and Family Services. If you have a passion for working with young children, teens and their families and being creative in developing programs that inspire curiosity and community engagement, this position may be the right choice for you. Candidates with strong communication and organizational skills and the ability to work collaboratively with staff and volunteers are the best fit for this position.

The Library Assistant II position focuses on:
  • Designing and leading engaging programs for regularly occurring in-house programs and various outreach opportunities for the public
  • Assisting families in accessing library resources, including digital tools and educational materials to empower youth, teens, and families
  • Collaborating with staff to create a welcoming environment that encourages lifelong learning and literacy
  • Providing excellent customer service at the service point desks throughout the library, including using printed and electronic sources to assist with public computers, public access catalogs, copiers, printers, faxes, scanners, AV equipment, eReaders, and locating library materials
  • Plan, prepare, and maintain library displays and promotions
  • Conduct tours when requested
  • Participate in CPL system-wide committees and assist with system-wide events
  • Perform collection maintenance tasks such as holds, shelving and shelf reading, damaged materials and discards
  • Prepare and maintain various reports and records

Perform other duties as assigned.
