Job Description
Under the direct supervision, responsible for rendering safe, ethical and professional care to ensure optimal patient care within policies, procedures and standards.
Essential Responsibilities:- Patient Health Care: Explain examination, test and medical procedures and purpose of the same.
- Instruct patients on general health and basic self care procedures.
- Review, explain and clarify physician orders with patient or parent.
- Instruct patients in use of home equipment.
- Administer patient first aid.
- Apply and remove dressings.
- Assist patients with personal hygiene, bathing and sit baths.
- Follow standard infection control procedures.
- Give enemas.
- Initiate emergency procedures (including CPR) and provide emergency patient treatment.
- Monitor patient vital signs.
- Participate in development of nursing care plan.
- Provide therapeutic patient care as prescribed by a physician.
- Observe and monitor patient condition for reactions during and after procedures.
- Take and record patient vital signs, height, weight, etc.
- Obtain patient specimens.
- Prepare samples and specimens for lab analysis.
- Perform urine test using Accucheck.
- Assist physician and medical staff with procedures, diagnostic examinations and treatments.
- Restrain or support patient during procedures.
- Assist patients with ambulating and exercises.
- Conduct group exercise classes.
- Feed patients requiring assistance.
- Check food trays for accuracy and delivery them to patients.
- Administer intramuscular or subcutaneous medications.
- Administer oral medications.
- Records and Patient Information
- Greet and interview patients.
- Interview patients to collect data.
- Review patient records for medical and psychiatric information.
- Chart patient data such as vital signs and nutrition intake.
- Complete referral forms.
- Obtain patient signature on consent forms.
- Record all procedures and activities during emergencies.
- Assist patients with personal correspondence needs.
- Accompany patient on outside activities.
- Transport patient to and from designated areas.
- Equipment and Instruments & Materials and Supplies: Maintain a clean work area.
- Maintain and supply patient with hygiene and leisure items.
- Replenish bed linen and sanitary supplies.
- Administrative and other: Participate in developing and conducting in-service programs and patient care classes.
- Demonstrate safety procedures.
- Participate in team conferences.
- Train and orient new or less experienced personnel.
- Maintain a current licensure/certificates.
- Maintain proficiency in clinical skills.
- Answer nurses station telephones and other phone call and take messages.
- Locate personnel by paging system or beeper.
- Provide patient information to family members.
- Screen patient calls and take messages for provider.
- Triage patient calls.
- Assume other activities and responsibilities from time to time as directed.

Psychiatric Technician License (California)
- Basic Life Support
- Must be able to manage potentially assaultive mental patients.
- Recent experience in inpatient psychiatric area preferred.
