Located near Des Moines, Iowa Speedway joined the NASCAR family of tracks in 2013. Known as the "Fastest Short Track on the Planet", Iowa Speedway plays host to two major race weekends a year, welcoming the ARCA Menards Series and the NTT INDYCAR Series. The track was designed by NASCAR Hall of Famer Rusty Wallace.

Iowa Speedway seeks a talented professional to join the position of Facility Maintenance Manager. This role oversees the day-to-day management, maintenance, and operational efficiency of the facility infrastructure. With a strong background in maintenance, this role will involve a combination of strategic planning, project management, and hands-on leadership in ensuring the safety, reliability, and performance of the track network. The position requires an in-depth understanding of inspection, repair, and maintenance processes, alongside operational coordination for optimized track usage.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Determines work priorities and directs track staff accordingly.
  • Oversees and maintains the daily condition of the racing surface. Makes observations known to the Sr Director of Operations so proper maintenance can be performed when needed.
  • Oversees maintenance of all facility infrastructure, and all equipment required to ensure continuous operational flow.
  • Recommends capital improvement requests to senior management and provides subsequent backup as needed.
  • Manages/oversees facility-related capital improvement projects.
  • Develops and implements methods and procedures designed to improve operations, minimize costs, and effect greater utilization of labor and materials.
  • Works with track team and individuals to ensure a high level of morale both in terms of improved work performance and successful completion of projects while adhering to company policies and procedures.
  • Oversees ongoing track activity, which in addition to event preparation and implementation, includes track rental, special promotions, and all on-site endeavors.
  • Maintains a strong initiative for identifying, evaluating, and executing all elements of facility management.
  • Ensures the grounds of the facility are maintained throughout the year, with daily upkeep and direct attention towards NASCAR race week preparedness.
  • Supervises all track maintenance personnel, which could include any or all of the following trades - electrician, auto/heavy equipment mechanic, plumber, carpenter, painter, equipment operator (s), operations assistant, gate guards assigned to Security, seasonal employees during event activity.
  • Provides assistance, direction, and guidance to full-time maintenance employees.
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.
  • Facilitates and maintains records of service agreements with contractors to maintain cost control and liability obligations.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Associate degree or equivalent from a two-year college is preferred.
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in operations and maintenance.
  • Experience in a leadership or management role is preferred.
  • Experience with maintenance systems, certifications, tools, and technology is preferred including but not limited to:
    • Computer-aided Design (CAD)
    • Welding Certification / Experience
    • Iowa Pesticide Applicator Certification
    • OSHA Background / Experience
    • Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)
    • Electrical License / Experience
    • Plumbing License / Experience
    • HVAC License / Experience
    • Equipment Operation / Experience
  • Proven experience in managing large-scale projects and budgets.
  • Strong background in inspection, rehabilitation, and maintenance strategies.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to manage cross-functional teams and foster a high-performance culture.
  • Excellent project management skills, with experience handling multiple projects simultaneously and meeting deadlines.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a data-driven approach to decision-making.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in Workday and MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook, in particular).
  • Excellent time management skills, attention to detail, and the ability to multi-task and prioritize work.
  • A proactive approach to problem-solving with strong decision-making skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and planning skills in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must be able to work evenings and weekends, as required.

Work Environment

  • This position may require occasional travel to different facilities and track sites, including fieldwork in varying weather conditions.
  • On-call availability may be required for emergency track issues or project needs.
  • While performing the duties of this job, this position is regularly required to work near moving mechanical parts and is regularly exposed to outdoor weather conditions.
  • This position is frequently exposed to wet or humid non-weather conditions and works in high, precarious places.
  • This position is exposed to loud noise levels in the work environment.

Physical demands include the following:

  • Regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.
  • Frequently required to stand; walk; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; and taste or smell.
  • Occasionally required to sit and lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
