Responsibilities*

As a Temporary Medical Assistant in the Cardiovascular Center you will provide direct patient care, assist with clinical procedures and coordinate patient flow in several sub-specialty clinics. In this role you will be responsible for:

  • Performing patient intake and rooming duties in the clinic. 
  • Documenting health information in the electronic medical record. 
  • Maintaining proficiency and competency in performing tasks such as vital signs, 12 lead EKG's, dressing changes, and immunizations. 
  • Coordinating patient flow, as assigned, throughout the clinic. 
  • Performing various clinically-related duties delegated by the medical and nursing staff. 
  • Providing routine instructions to patients regarding procedures, treatments, and follow-up care instructions as delegated by the clinical medical and nursing staff. 
  • Problem-solving patient and family care issues. 

Required Qualifications*

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Graduation from a Medical Assistant program or an equivalent combination of education and 0-1 years of experience.
  • BLS within 3-months of assignment.
  • Knowledge of basic medical terminology.
  • Moderate standing/walking, as well as, lifting, positioning, pushing and/or transferring patients.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to work well within a team setting.
  • Communicates effectively.
  • Demonstrates active listening, written, verbal and information technology skills.

Desired Qualifications*

  • Certification as a Medical Assistant.
  • Experience working within a large, complex health care setting. 
  • Familiarity with UMHS electronic medical record systems.
  • Knowledge of University policies and procedures

Work Schedule

Monday through Friday, 10 - 30 hours per week.

Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. Work agreements are reviewed annually at a minimum and are subject to change at any time, and for any reason, throughout the course of employment. Learn more about the work modes.

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.  Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
