About This Role
The Medical Research Contract Lead is the primary budget reviewer and contract manager for all research approved by the Biogen Medical Research Review Committee - this includes a portfolio of investigator sponsored and Biogen-sponsored phase 4 studies. Working closely with Legal, the Contract Lead is the main point of contact for teams conducting medical research globally, investigator sites, CRO staff, and Medical's Global and Affiliate Legal partners for all things related to budget and contracting from proposed budget assessments to execution of a study agreement. In addition, using the knowledge gained as contracts are completed, they work with Legal to identify areas of improvement in the contracting process, templates, and guidance. The Contract Lead also manages training on budgeting and contracting topics to all stakeholders.
What You'll Do
- Assess study budgets for fair market value alignment
- Populate contract templates for investigator sponsored research and independently review and edit contracts and amendments, escalate to Legal as needed
- Participate in negotiation of contract terms with sites, investigators, and institutions
- Ensure that contractual terms and provisions are in compliance with corporate processes, guidelines, and policies
- Develop and manage a clause library for research agreement negotiations that includes fall back language provided by Legal
- Support Study teams in financial start-up activities and provide reporting on study finances
- Identify improvement opportunities for templates, guidance, and process
- Develop and present training on budget and contracting topics

Required Skills
- University degree or the equivalent combination of education and experience required
- 5-7 years of experience in a role with budget and contract oversight
- Strong negotiation and analytical skills
- Knowledge of best practices for research contracting with a strong understanding of key concepts like intellectual property and data privacy
- Ability to support diverse stakeholders, strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Adept at balancing multiple priorities with a clear sense of urgency
- Ability to work independently to solve problems and hold others accountable for compliance
- Proficient in MS Excel
Preferred Skills
- Experience within the life science industry (healthcare, academic, CRO, or pharmaceutical industry)
- Understanding of clinical operations / research, especially investigator-sponsored research
- Experience with vendor management, especially of CROs
Additional Information
Base salary offered is determined through an analytical approach utilizing a combination of factors including, but not limited to, relevant skills & experience, job location, and internal equity.
