Mid-Level Labor & Employment Associate

Jacksonville, FL

Job Description

The Jacksonville office of McGuireWoods seeks an Associate to join its Labor & Employment Department.

McGuireWoods' Labor and Employment group counsels employers in every aspect of the employer/employee relationship — from compliance, traditional labor issues, and internal investigations to federal contracting and executive compensation.   Our Employment Litigation Practice Group brings seasoned trial lawyers with experience in every form of employment claim in state and federal courts and in arbitral forums such as AAA, JAMS, and FINRA.  We have an outstanding record of success at each stage of litigation — in cases involving discrimination, harassment, retaliation, wrongful discharge, restrictive covenant violations, wage-and-hour disputes, and ERISA claims, among others.  We are the go-to advisers for our clients' most sensitive and challenging employment litigation issues.

Our Jacksonville team defends employers against claims under Title VII, the ADA, the FMLA, the ADEA, the FLSA, ERISA, and the Florida Civil Rights Act, and represents unionized employers in labor matters and tort litigation.   We practice before federal and state courts and agencies nationwide, serving clients across the transportation, hospitality, education, healthcare, and consumer products industries.   This is an opportunity to join an established litigation practice with immediate, hands-on responsibility in high-stakes employment matters.

McGuireWoods, one of the world’s leading law firms, has provided legal solutions to corporate, individual and nonprofit clients since 1834. Along with excellent benefits, McGuireWoods offers our attorneys a competitive salary with hours and merit bonus opportunities and billable hours credit for pro bono work. Continually establishing new initiatives and enhancing existing efforts, we focus on meaningful support for our lawyers in their careers.  Our Applicant Disclosures describe your rights. Our Privacy Statement describes how we will process and safeguard your personal data.

  • Qualified candidates will have 3–5 years of relevant experience to include:
    • Demonstrated experience in labor and employment litigation, including preparation for depositions, legal research and writing, motions practice, and handling discovery.
    • Extensive knowledge of federal, state and local employment law.
    • Trial experience is a plus.
  • Candidates with judicial clerkship experience are strongly encouraged to apply.
  • Candidates should possess strong interpersonal skills and the ability to interact with client, business, and legal teams.
  • Must have a strong academic record, excellent writing, and oral communication skills.
  • Willingness and desire to work with innovative technology platforms. Our attorneys leverage Harvey AI to accelerate research, streamline document drafting, and enhance analytical work, allowing associates to focus on higher-value strategic thinking and client engagement.
  • Florida Bar is required.
  • Please submit cover letter, resume, law school transcript, and writing sample.
