On Call Recipe Developer

The Culinary Center is hiring a flexible, on-call recipe developers to support recipe development and product testing across retail, food service and K-12 initiatives. This role is ideal for a culinary professional who is highly organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable working across both the creative and technical sides of test kitchen responsibilities.

This position is an on-call/part time role, ranging from 5 - 15 days/month with no guaranteed hours. Daytime hours are generally 8am - 4:30pm. Work is done on-site at the Culinary Center in Arden Hills, MN. Scheduling is based on project timelines and business needs

Pay Rate: $40.00 - $70.00 per hour based on experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and test recipes that align with the project objectives, product strategy, and the end-user needs
  • Use the established recipe development process from initial concept through finalization including multiple test rounds as needed.
  • Write clear, accurate, and repeatable recipes, adhering to style guidelines, including ingredients, preparation steps, yield, headnotes etc.
  • Visualize finished recipe for photography and video, with the understanding of composition, styling, and appetite appeal, as key elements during development.
  • Prepare and organize food for photo and video shoots, including execution of final recipes, for pre-pro tasting and production days.
  • Provide recipe and food details for pre-production decks, storyboards, or shoot planning documents.
  • Collaborate closely with Culinary Center Team members, project managers, and technicians to meet timelines and quality standards
  • Follow all food safety, sanitation, and kitchen operating procedures.

Required Qualifications

  • Strong culinary foundation gained through experience in a professional kitchen, test kitchen, catering business, or similar environment
  • Demonstrated experience in recipe development, testing, and documentation
  • Exceptional attention to detail and ability to clearly document work digitally
  • Comfort working with Microsoft Office programs, spreadsheets, and shared documentation tools
  • Ability to translate a recipe concept into a finished, visually compelling dish
  • Interest in both the science and artistry of cooking, including flavor development and execution
  • Ability to taste, evaluate, and provide constructive feedback on recipes and products
  • Reliable availability during standard business hours as projects require

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with preproduction planning for food content
  • Background in food styling or visual food presentation
  • Experience working in a corporate culinary or product development environment
  • Experience supporting food photography or video shoots
