Optometric Assistant I - Temporary - 24 hrs
Job Description
Under the primary supervision of the Optometrist, may perform all the duties and functions as permitted under the laws and regulations of the State of California, the Board of Optometry, and within the policies of The Permanente Medical Group, Inc.
Essential Responsibilities:
Duties include but are not limited to:
Preparatory work:
- Prepare patients for examination
- Collect preliminary patient data including obtaining patient history, lens types and lifestyle requirements
- Clean and maintain instruments
- Stock examination rooms and order supplies
- Obtain missing patient information
Perform other administrative, patient care, or logistical duties
Perform the following tests, procedures, training and/or data entry:
- Administer ophthalmic agents as allowed by law
- Amsler grid testing
- A scans
- Automated Visual field testing
- Binocular training
- B scans
- Color tests
- Contact lens removal/insertion
- Cover testing
- Electrodiagnostic testing
- Exophthalmometry
- Fixation disparity
- Keratometry
- Lensometry
- Objective refractions
- Ocular motility
- Ophthalmic photography and digital imaging
- Pachymetry
- Patient education
- Pupil testing
- Stereo testing
- Tonometry
- Visual acuity testing
May be expected to perform any new procedures resulting from technological advances that do not require the exercise of professional judgment as determined by the multidisciplinary committee established pursuant to State of California laws and Regulations that are also consistent with the policies and procedures of The Permanente Medical Group, Inc
- Supervisory Responsibilities: N/A
Basic Qualifications: Experience
- Must have at least six (6) months of recent experience (500 hours or more) in a patient care setting. Must demonstrate proficiency in all Opthalmic procedures and testing as required by the Employer upon completion of training. Must be able to work in a Labor/Management partnership environment.
- Must be a high school graduate
